This mod was to clean up 2001 and newer U.S. Monsters (removing California emission requirements). Tools needed are metric allen wrenches, screw driver, cutting tool, and pliers. To buy are 2 - M5 bolts, 2 large washers, RTV sealant, black wire ties, optional Y fitting.
After I did this, my bike seemed to have a slightly stronger gasoline smell. I think it is the tank venting to atmosphere, and not into the charcoal. Perform this mod at your own risk.
* Remove the seat and prop the tank.
* Remove the side panel covering canister.
* Find the hoses that are connected to the canister (3).
(See Ducati USA and Euro parts diagrams below for reference)
*Take off hose clamps on throttle bodies.
* Disconnect T fitting, and save.
* First note location, then cut wire ties that are holding hoses, and the slide hoses out.
* Disconnect hoses from canister.
* Take out 2 large allen bolts holding canister mounting plate.
* Slide plate out.
* Slide washers in where plate was and reinstall bolts.
* Cut drain and vent hoses appropriate length and splice together using the T from the bodies or a Y from your local auto parts store.
* Remove OEM fittings and washers from bodies.
* Install short M5 bolts and OEM washers and a dab of RTV to seal. If there is a leak at the body, the bike will not run right.
* Replace any wire ties you cut off.
* You will probably have to cut an inch off the drain/vent hose end near the swingarm to account for the Y you added.
