Has anybody been using this other than myself?

It found and removed a bad virus for me the other day.

Thanks for the tip.  I have AVG running on my machine now, plus AdAware.  Both are free, but I'm willing to give this MSFT suite a shot.

I'm comin' to the useful end of life for my computer.  Thinking about moving to an iMac next.  I intentionally missed the Vista era, but Windows 7 seems compelling.  I'm just tired of all the antivirus software, etc. that is required to run Windows.   :-\

well be sure to remove the other Antivirus & spyware stuff after you try it out for a while. Then do a fresh re install and things should work better and faster.

THe RC version of windows is still available until March. Do yourself the favor. DOwnload it, use it and love it.
Just make sure your macine is able to handle it. cause ive seen some shitty computers run WIndows 7 and the owner flips out.

Just had a co-worker go off on a rant about how Windows 7 is sh!te just like every other version....

He somehow installed it on a 7 year old computer running a <2.0 Celeron processor and 512 meg of ram.

Not the first time I've seen this.  Every time a new version comes out, there are plenty of people installing it without checking the system requirements.

I'm waiting on my hook-up to pick me up a copy of 7 from the Microsoft Company Store so I can install it on my Laptop.  Also waiting for the UPS guy to bring my Dell Studio Slim running Windows 7 as my Netflix/Hulu machine

Are you sure about that?  This indicates that you can no longer download the RC version. (or maybe they're referring to something else?)

How's Win 7 compare to Apple Snow Leopard?  I have a buddy who just got a new Windows 7 machine, and he likes it.  I'm just tired of all the security/antivirus/adware BS I have to wade through with Microsoft.

I've seen some good reviews for Windows 7.  I'm not against it by any means, just viewing Microsoft products a little more skeptically lately.  Plus, we bought our first Mac this past summer (a MacBook Pro) and it's worked really well.

Edit:  I'm thinking about starting a "Migrating from Windows to Apple" thread, but am afraid it'll turn into a bash-fest.  :D

using security essentials these days. was using AVG free before.
i liked AVG, but often the updates caused problems for me. security essentials just sits there and does its thing.

Well so Far I'm pleased with this. I have been thinking of making the migration to Apple as well and one of the reasons was the constant updates and the need for security. I was using Avira but that also needed constant updates and it would leave a big pop up all the time wanting me to pay for it. I get tired of having to pay for stuff like this that you shouldn't have to pay for. Microsoft should have come out with this 15 years ago.

Anyway i'm glad about Security essentials I see how it goes. It makes me a little more content with windows rather than unsatisfied.

i use WSE on my windows(7) virtual machine (fusion on snowleopard). it seems to be good stuff. win7 seems decent, as well.

I used to use the A/V suite that Roadrunner gave away for free, but about 6 months ago it was just making my machine unusuably slow. So i decided to give Security Essentials a try and my machine is back to full speed and it has successfully caught a few viruses so I'm very happy with it.
