Been checking out this great site for the past 3-4 weeks taking in any and all info on the  S2R 1000.  Just yesterday I checked out a 07 S2R 1000 in really decent shape, with some performance mods.

I really want to get this bike but I'm bit leary, since the owner has only one black key (No Red Key). He said that is all he got form the guy he purchased it from. The owner had just purchased it last fall  and doesn't seem to know alot about what he really has.    He has a few other bikes (Cruisers) he rides and said he bought the Ducati to try something different. Huh?

Anyways it has 6800 miles ( I know the valves and belts should be checked) a full Arrow exhaust with C/F cans, opened air box with a K&N and a Ultimap U59G2.

What I need to know is that since it has the Ultimap, will the Immobilizer be bypassed and I won't have to worry about the red key.  Can he have another key cut and will it work?  The bike runs and idles fine. Could not test drive it yesterday since it was pi$$ing rain. Hopefully tommorrow or the next day I should be able to ride it.

Your knowledge and opinions will be gratefully appreciated.

From the best 1000DS thread on this board:

UltiMap59 - Product is full ECU replacement and will eliminate the need for an O2 sensor while not triggering the "Check Engine" light. Generation 2 product does not work with stepper motor to smooth out engine while idling. Generation 3 product runs with the stepper motor.  Website is due to be updated with new info on Gen 3.  One major upshot is the ability to use any aftermarket speedo/tach display and the disabling of the immobilizer. Dynotuners for this product limited in US.

Doesn't look like you have an active immobilizer. Get the owner to get a copy of the key to be sure. You will want to be sure that it is a Gen3 unit as you don't have any way to control the "choke" otherwise.

Doh!  Removed offending contradictory information......

Thanks yotogi and angler for the info.  yotogi, when you say control the "choke", is it a fast idle till the bike warms up to temp?  Should the bike idle properly when it has warmed up.

Just a long shot here, when I looked at the ECU, it said Ultimap Type U59G2.  Would the G2 mean Generation 2 ?

Bear with me people, I'm just a older guy that loves bikes!!   chug laughingdp

Yeah, but "choke" I mean "fast-idle". On the S2R1K it is controlled by a stepper motor, which the Gen3 is reported to have control over. Without it (or a workaround) getting the bike to temp will be more challenging on cooler days. Once the bike is up to temp, that stepper doesn't do anything as far as I know.

Can't help you on which is which, the only thing I know is what I linked to above. I would just shoot an e-mail to the company and get any info they might have.

And, don't worry, you are not a bear at all. We love to help other people out for some reason...  Wink

Unfortunately I tried FIM Ultimap's website and it seems it's no longer there.  Hopefully someone can chime in and verify that this is the case or not.

I'm just waiting from the owner to see if he cut another key and to see if it works, since the immobilizer might be disabled by the FIM Ultimap being installed.

Well, the owner phoned me back telling me he had a new key cut, put it in the ignition, bike started and ran with no problems.  Looks like the FIM Ultimap deactivates the immobilizer letting you copy the key.

Due to my work schedule, I won't be able to go test the bike on the road until Tuesday. Sad  But by Wednesday I should be the proud owner of my first Ducati,  a 2007 S2R 1000  Grin [moto]

I know, pictures will be posted.   cheeky
