http://www.ultimatemotorcycling.com/2010_Ducati_Multistrada_1200_Service_Intervals
Ducati North America is excited to announce a significant milestone in the company's engineering history: 15,000 mile major service intervals on the 2010 Multistrada 1200.
I refuse to buy that fugly anteater-beaked motorcycle to get these long service intervals, but very cool nonetheless. I wonder whether they can use the new valve seat material on superbikes and get the same performance with the longer service life?

What's the difference in red-lines between the two bikes?

15,000 mile major service intervals on the 2010 Multistrada 1200.
Maybe they just no longer consider valve check a major service. Marketing BS?

Maybe we can send the superbikes off to Vietnam for service. I hear they have some crack mechanics over there.

I checked with Hattar and there's no 7500 valve check on these bikes. They don't have any info on the other services. I'm guessing at least oil & filter.
Apparently there's some unobtanium being used for valve guides that makes the 15K possible. At least that's the marketing obfuscation.
Yeah, I would really like the SF to only have 15K valve checks, believe me.

You're telling that to the guy who has a 4-valver that needs servicing every 6000 miles
Thanks for following up with Hattar.

Yeah, but now you've got the blue cockroach, which needs them, what, every 26K?

I guess what you save in service you can put towards crash bars.

How does the material used in the valve guides affect the frequency of valve checks?
Out of curiosity, does your shop give you the numbers from your valve checks when they do them? Evan and I have found on the older bikes that once things settle in that checking is all you really have to do--there's little or no change. I haven't done much in the way of shim changes since my top end was redone--a couple of openers and a closer, two maybe, over 25K miles. I know for a fact that I haven't changed anything out in 12+K. If you just wait long enough, everything else starts to fail, but you don't have to deal with valves a whole bunch anymore.
I don't even bother checking the mileage anymore. I just check valves once or twice a year.

The Supersport has been like that for me (even with a complete top-end rebuild...new valves, new seats...a few years back) but the Monster has not. They have to do 2-3 new shims every time the 4-valver goes in.
