Please educate me as to what I can do here for a complete tackle of the intake.

I'm not interested in short Malossi intake manifolds and split singles [on this bike], I'm looking at Tandem FCR 41's, a Monster 900 and what pod/velocity stack options are out there, and how it all bolts together.

Typically, you bolt the pod filters to the FCR's I believe (only going on picturs I've seen - hadn't done this myself ...yet). I suppose this would be "around" the plastic velocity stacks shown in this picture below:

G'day AM

The FCR kit from Cal Cycleworks comes with everything you need to run the carbs with the air box, and is absolutely complete. They have a good base setting and excellent instructions . The service and help was excellent.

I'm sure Chris could provide you with variations like K&N pod filters, etc. However, Chris has recommended using the stock air box in his FCR Supplement, citing the need for somewhere to place the coils and ignition modules. The open air box with K&N filter is a good performance mod without having to buy pods and make a bracket for the ignition gear.

The blue velocity stacks are not normally used on a street bike, they come in the kit, look good in the publicity shot and are good to look at over a beer. I suppose you could use them and clamp some foam pods over them with some frickin around, but I wouldn't (didn't).

I know this because my Wife had pity on me and bought me set from Chris. The FCRs completed the engine package (JE hi comp pistons, Dyna coils, dialled cams, porting, Termis, light clutch and flywheel). It has tied all my other modifications together and in all honesty the difference is vivid.

Lukes 39s are still on his Superlight in New Zealand! He was supposed to bring them over for me to test but he got caught up in his work situation and didnt have a chance (long story).
My wife witnessing my long term tuning saga with the CVs, mercifully bought me a set of 41s. I married the right girl that's for sure.

Tuning the FCRs is relatively straight forward, just looking at the slow fuel and air jets at present. I'll visit and you can try the bike, the difference is ridiculous.

I'll call you later in the week.

Looking at Eonan's M900 (here: m900.blogspot.com), he's done a tidy job of removing the airbox with pod filters. I know the EFI bikes can use the TPO Parts velocity stacks to mount up the filters, and I have always thought about doing that.

Except for the high comps, my motor has similar work to yours, koko64 -- I'm hoping to 'finish' out the external parts, with the carbs being the last element. I should also mention that I really don't like the CV's that come on the bike, too.

If you care to visit Texas, you may feel free to bring your bike for me to test too. cheeky

The pods do look hard core. I have run them on my Superlight with 39 FCRs.

I kept with the open air box this time. I just seperated the battery and air boxes for easier servicing by cutting away the area between them. This let me use a manometer to synch the FCR carbs, by removing the battery box and running the bike with the battery sitting on a stool via long "service" cables. That way I could get to the tops of the carbs.
Besides the choke, that's the only advantage of the CV carbs, easier to synch.

Looking forward to seeing the finished job.

A mate of mine may be moving to Texas for work, so I may visit yet! Imagine a high comp/standard comp test!  Wink

The K&N pods go on the air box adaptors. Chris will have everything you need to make up a kit for your proposed set up. You get credits on the bits subtracted from the normal kit like the square K&N filter and add the pods, for example.

I'll see if Luke can send me some pictures from New Zealand, but it's on a Superlight and the set up is different. C'mon guys, someone on the forum surely has a photo of the Monster arrangement. A guy has a set up for pods on the CVs where he fabricates a nice battery box and ignition gear bracket on a Monster on a site called Ducati Suite from what I can remember.

Shoot, I hadn't made much progress recently since we got snow dumped all over us recently. Interestingly, I rode the bike last weekend, and then this week it got cold and dumped a foot of snow all over North Texas!

i made my own battery tray, and coil bracket cause i switched to a smaller battery as well.
