Lowering an S2R 800

Has anyone lowered one.  How much did you get it down.  what exactly did you do to the bike.  I am concerned about adversely affecting handling, because in spite of my height challenges i am an experienced rider and want to ride with the big one.

im vertically challenged and if your okay with riding tippy toe, or with just 1 foot on the floor, id jack that bike up!

i dont think the 800 has an adjustable ride height, but if you do, all you need to do is unload the rear and add some threads to the bar and your good.

Order the lowered seat. Or shave the foam out of yours, and recover. Lots of topics on the net where folks did this. Corbin (although $$$) can make any seat you like that fits your tastes

I'm surprised to be reading this.  Most people here on the forum are looking to do the opposite and jack the rear up for more height.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Lowering the rear, by adjusting the ride height rod, will affect handling much more than it affects the seat height.
Lowering the front - same thing, but is usually considered a positive on Monsters.

The lower seat for the S2R (800 and 1000)(same as stock 620/695) will give you the best result. You'd still want to look into lowering the front for better turn in, but that "shouldn't" be done for lowering purposes alone.

On the contrary, there's quite a few people on the forum who are height-challenged and have had to do something to compensate for it (lowering link, aftermarket or shaved seat, and/or tall boots).  That's why I started the Short Riders FAQ.  There have also been several other threads about dealing with height issues.

Step by step until you are comfortable.  I would start with the seat.  The Ducati lowered seat is, if memory serves me well, a little less than an inch lower than stock.  More than that can be shaved.  After that, if you don't want to affect handling except for loosing ground clearance, lower the suspension equally front and rear.  Lowering the rear requires installing an adjustable link.  Lowering the front only will quicken the steering and reduce stability.  Many like the result.  If you choose to lower the front only, do it in small increments.  If you lower the suspension enough you will need a shorter sidestand  and may have trouble clearing speed bumps.

I've got an s2r800 and am .... vertically challenged (5'2" on a good day with a 27" inseam). I got the lower seat from ducati and it really helped. Shaving the seat would definitely be a good option to try first then move on to changing the geometry if you have to.

But I found that just the new seat was enough to make me comfortable in most situations though I still tend to walk it around in parking lots and the driveway.

Hi Pee Wee.

Yes you have an adjustable link on the S2R800.
I'm tippy toes as well 5'6", no real dramas.

Agreeing with Howie's and Stopintime's comments, about trying the seat first,
Can you borrow a 620/695 seat just to try? Is there a friendly member out there to assist?

FYI, my forks are 10mm lower with 30mm static sag. No problems.

Short people unite!! There is a lowering link, but I would highly discourage you from lowering the back.

Welp...just ordered up a spiffy set of Rizoma rearsets to move the peg back a bit, a lowering link, and a 620 seat from Duck-Stew.  We are goin to lower the beast 1 step at  a time and see if we can make it all work out.  Otherwise my husband says he has a new track bike... ;D

I'm 5' 11", so no problem reaching the ground for me. Also my bike had the 1" lowered seat from Ducati.
Anywho, I just want it closer to the ground. More bastard. Any tips or warnings?
Is it possible to slip the forks up through the triple threes 1" or more? The rear's adjustable.

It's a -05 S2R800. Got a 19% torque increase with the Performance Kit. Stock crank power at the rear wheel.

In Finland we've got 'bout 15" of snow right now, it's been over 3 months of -20°C or less. Today I started her up for the first time this winter and got high on the exhaust fumes. 50 days left 'til the season starts. My fingers itch...  [moto]

the more angles i see your bike from the more i want my 696 to eventually be as cool as it.

anyways, i want to raise my 696. there is an 1100 spacer that i can get that will lift the bike up, but my dealer is making a stink about handing and speed wable etc from geometry changes. Now this makes no sense to me know that i see bikes like your with a bar that can change your ride height on a whim! what to do... will a half inch up in the back make a huge difference?
