I lived in OT Alex in a decent place (most of the regulars here have seen it). I got in at a decent price. Dunno if there's anything left in the neighborhood though. It was never advertised. I just drove by.

Anyone have any idea what breeds of dogs are usually considered "off limits" for apartment dwelling in the area?  I have a doberman that I really want to bring with me, but...   :-\

Yuu's recommendations are good.  You'll be going against traffic for both Bethesda and Springfield.

Are you coming from St. Louis?  I have friends that work at the Bethesda shop, but will be moving to the Belvoir site next year.  They used to ride, but recently sold their bikes.

I work across the street from the WNY.  Green line metro is across the street also (transfer to red to get to bethesda, transfer to blue for springfield).  There are several apt and condo buildings nearby and there seems to be a lot of people walking their dogs (all sizes/breeds...except pit bulls).  And a number of ducati riders in the area.

It can really vary. It used to be dogs were total PNG... but managers started to realized that Arlington/Alexandria is very pro dog and they needed to be chill about pets. Some places have weight caps - others, come one come all. You'll have to check out each place for the real scoop.

maybe if it is a Min-Pin to carry in your purse they'll allow it....LOL...J/K!

if you are working in Bethesda....if I were you, I'd look for a house renting a basement in NW DC or perhaps in Silver Spring/Takoma Park and do the below the beltway cross commute which can be fun at certain hours...

I am actually coming from Hawaii, and am in the same boat as your friends who will be moving down to NCE. With that in mind, I am more inclined to find a place in around Arlington/Alexandria just because it will be easier to deal with making my way south once the job moves.

I have never worked long term at WNY, but have been in and out of there many times.  Wish the place was going to remain, and that my job would be there, as the metro access is amazingly convenient.

Yea...  Not so sure about that.  Think a 55 pound Dobe would be hard to get into my murse.  Thanks for the tip though.  ;)

Well, looks like I found a place that will let me bring the dog AND have garage space for the bikes.  Anyone know anything about The Summit Apartments, on South Reynolds St, Alexandria?

mraff

Don't know about the place, but don't bank on the time to commute to Belvoir as quoted on google maps...

DRKWNG

lol  I never trust stuff like that.  Luckily a friend of mine lives just down the road in Springfield.  He and I will be working in the same buildings, so he has given me the scoop as to how long it will take.

trading Island Fever for Gridlock Fever....

DRKWNG

Have you ever commuted on this rock?  Life down here is far from sunsets and cocktails.

mraff

Nah, but I imagine da fever is much like peninsula fever and citystate fever.

Just you wait... I think DC is rated as 2nd worst traffic in the states. And with all the BRAC stuff moving toe Belvoir... oh that shits going to be a mess.  The roads down there just don't ahve the capacity at this time to handle all the new folks - and really might not ever.

Actually, Honolulu is rated as second in the nation, only behind LA in over all traffic induced fatigue.  You have no idea about antiquated and poorly planned roadway infrastructure until you have come down here. And then couple that with the fact that approximately 40 percent of cars are being operated by people who have no concept of the English language, and are more focused on their tour guide books than anything.  It really is silly.

Mixing bowl is gonna suck both ways. 1 isn't really an option. Van Dorn to Telegraph shouldn't be TOO bad. Didn't they widen it not too long ago?

I don't know specifically about gate lines though. I don't think there are a lot of gates into the base. But, I only really went down there when everyone else was working and only to do some shopping.

Well, and the one time Charlie drove me to the ER with a dislocated shoulder. But, the commute for that wasn't painful...
