Considering the advancement of the portable, large capacity, MP3 player and corresponding digital music industry such as ITunes, Rhapsody, et al., perhaps the concept of the traditional album has become archaic and so last century. I respectfully withdraw the question  :)

By using the word...

you're dating yourself.

I honestly can't pick 10...or necessarily know which tunes are on which compilation (notice how I skirted the issue?)

If I did pick 10 I'm almost positive 90% would be from the last century.

It's too hard for me to pick my favorite ten.  :)

Hell, I hate these things... but I'll play. Lemme consult my last.fm and see what I listen to most. [cheeky]

So, in only semi-particular order:

1. Jawbreaker - Dear You
2. Sunny Day Real Estate - How It Feels To Be Something On
3. Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand
4. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
5. Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West
6. The Embarrassment - Live at KMUW, 4/16/83
7. The Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site
8. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
9. Cursive - Such Blinding Stars For Starving Eyes
10. Fugazi - Red Medicine

And for what it's worth, I don't consider the album a dead concept. I still buy LPs, and when I listen to my mp3 player I cue up whole albums.

I have not heard anything of any redeeming quality in many many years, I agree with you.  Might move my deadline up to 2000, but definitely nothing in the 21st century has any sort of longevity to it.
