can we port over the entire motor oil thread from the DML, or is that technically the property of VS now, and would be opening up this board to legal action?

'cause if the posts prior to their takeover aren't their property, and this board would be safe(ish) in leeching that thread, i'd volunteer to do the grunt work of copy-pasting the thread, and formatting it for easyish reading.

opinions?

I don't see how they could own the content as it was never anyones to sell.  At least, I never knowingly turned over rights to what I posted.  Maybe the lawyers in residence could clarify.  It would be great to at least get the pertinent info back.

I think copying and cleaning out redundent posts would be a noble project.A big project and one that was discused on the George oil thread.
There is so much to learn there.I hope George or a replace-a-George shows up on this board.

This is my post from an oil thread else where.  Wink  It has been edited from that.

On Sunday October the 28th I did my first oil change... Ever! On my 07 S2R 800. (With help from Desmoquattro.) Thanks again DQ! waytogo

I used Amsoil's fully synthetic MCF 10W-40 motorcycle oil and a K&N oil filter.

For those of you on the peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose.
I bought the oil at:
Burke Distributing
100 El Camino Real
San Carlos, CA. 94070

(650) 654-2040

They only sell Amsoil products.

I purchased the gallon which broke down to $9.05per quart before tax.

The first thing I noticed (and I think it has been said before in that thread). Was the big "Ka Chunk" sound/feeling when downshifting from 2nd to 1st. It is totally gone! Okay that is a bit of an exaggeration. It has been greatly reduced though.
Shifting up and down through all the other gears is smoother as well.

Based on that alone I am impressed with this product and would reccomend it.
Other reasons I would reccomend this and other Amsoil lubricants:
1. Amsoil is Made in the USA
2. from purely synthetic stock. It is a group IV synthetic base stock oil. No petroleum.
Both of these contribute to reducing our dependency to foreign oil. waytogo

I plan on switching my cars oil, radiator fluid and eventually the trans fluid to Amsoil. That won't be for another 2,500 miles though.

I guess I should mention that I have no affiliation to Amsoil. I am just a fan. Grin  www.amsoil.com

If you haven't seen this, check out the study of motorcycle oils www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf
(It is supposed to be an independent study and was done in 2006.)
The best performers in the SAE 40 group are:                         The best performers in the SAE 50 group are:
1) Amsoil MCF (10W40)                                                         1) Amsoil MCV (20W50)
2) Motul 300V Sport (10W40)                                                 2) Mobil 1 V-Twin (20W50)
3) Mobil 1 MX4T (10W40)                                                      3) BMW (15W50)

As always, I hope this is helpfull.

George is here!!   I was out of town for a few days so missed e-mails..
Regarding moving our work from the previous site, obviously any of my posts are free to read by anyone, anywhere, the more the better..

But I am now a signed, sealed, registered member so off we go!  And thanks to those who alerted me to this new home..

okay, i've saved the entirety of the DML oil thread to my computer, and tomorrow i'll begin formatting it and weeding obviously irrelevant material.

anybody have suggestions on the best way to post it here, so as to keep it mostly readable?

okay, i downloaded the thread from the DML at 40 posts per page, and have been working on formatting and sorting it.

i'm on page 4 of 20, so far.

the thread should be up in its (weeded) entirety sometime before i die of old age. Tongue
