When we did the test run for this last month, we didn't need to stop for gas quite as much (ie didn't stop at Wilberforce or Kulurnu).  But we didn't have any testastretta with us past Halfway. I guess we'll just to have suck it and see on the day.

Directions from last time are here:

\snip
It is pretty much a series of right hand turns or slight veers offs. When you get the the end of any given road, chances are if you turn right you'll be good Smiley

For the directional challenged or paranoid (like me):

Initial Meeting point: Rouse Hill Caltex

It's about 15-20 minutes from there to the Wilberforce Caltex (last gas before halfway).

Putty Loop
START (Gas stop)
1.   Wilberforce Caltex

(Travel 98km) PUTTY ROAD -> HALFWAY (Gas Stop)
2.   Head northwest on Singleton/Putty Rd

(Travel 85km) HALFWAY -> BROKE (Gas Stop)
3.   Continue along Putty Road
4.   Right at Milbrodale Rd
5.   Turn right at Mt Thorley Rd (Broke). Pull over for fuel in gas station on the left.

(Travel 43km) BROKE -> WOLLOMBI (Lunch Stop)
6.    Continue along Mt Thorley Rd  (Becomes Paynes Crossing Road)

Warning: This road eventually becomes dirt for around 600m. Don't Panic. After this stretch of dirt you come across Wollombi.

(Travel 68 km) WOLLOMBI -> KULURNU (Gas Stop)
7.   From Wollombi, head down Great North Rd
8.   Veer left to stay on Great North Rd (ie dont turn right to go to Wisemans Ferry)
9.   Stop at Kulnura for Fuel (damn testastrettas!)

(Travel 21km) KULURNU -> ROAD WARRIORS (Coffee Stop)
10.   Right at Peats Ridge Rd
11.   Right at Old Pacific Hwy (near closed section)
12.   Follow Old Pacific Hwy to Road Warriors.

(travel 24km) ROADWARRIORS -> Berowra Caltex
13.   Follow Old Pacific Hwy to Berowra.
\snip

It took us about 2 hours to get from Wilberforce to Halfway, then about an hour to Wollombi, then about another hour and a half to Road Warriors (inc closed section loop).  Should be an awesome day!

Excellent,

That looks the goods to me.
What time are we all meeting up at the Caltex?
Is that where the Maccas is in the same complex.

Jukie/Betty where will you drop in on us then, I guess the same place you did last time round.

Cheers

Yep Matty, it's the combo Maccas/Caltex.

I'm pretty open with times, but I reckon we aim to depart from the Rouse Hill  at about 9:30. That puts us at Halfway by about 11:15, were we fuel up, take a break and drink coffee* for 15 mins. From there to Wollombi should take us about an hour, putting us in for lunch at the pub at around 12:30. Not sure how long lunch will take, it's dependant on how well done Andy gets his steak.  Wink

* Note: The term "Coffee" is used fairly loosely and may not will not meet Goldfish standard. Smiley

Given there looks to be a rather large group attanding I think the ride will take longer this time round, I suggest plan for 9.00 at Rouse hill maccas/caltex. This will allow time for the catch up with everyone and the straglers. Will be a big day!

Yeah I think an earlier start would be better.
A 9am departure is good, so I think we aim for an 8:30 arrival at the Caltex Servo.

So that would mean around 7am or so at Varby's in the South.
Sorry Goldfish I'm not for coming into Mecca before, coffee (which I don't drink) just can't lure me in there.

8:30 arrival 9:00 departure sounds good to me! That should put us in Wollombi at around 12:00-12:30 for AuntyMal (and anyone else that is meeting us up there).

+1. Large groups = long stops. Not to mention that there is typically a large range of riders skills / speeds if you're at the faster end of things, you'll be typically  waiting around a bit...

Not that I disagree with the comment, but there's at least one or two other Oz Monsters you can bundle in with me on that topic!

No worries Matty, I'll simply lure the other southerners (Super, Andy, Dock?) to my house (or mecca) prior to departure - from there peer group pressure will take over, and you'll be forced to hang with the espresso  Grin

In other words with me planning to meet at the start line (instead of cutting in towards the end) you will be waiting for me. Perhaps we meet at the designated spots only (start, fuel stops, lunch, warriors) - in other words the Putty is a long road, you could be waiting at Milbrodale a while for me, if you plan on stopping at turn-offs, etc.

We will all find our own pace, perhaps with a few smaller groups and I think there is enough people that know the route to prevent anybody getting too lost.

+1. Large groups = long stops. Not to mention that there is typically a large range of riders skills / speeds if you're at the faster end of things, you'll be typically  waiting around a bit...

Delays could be a good thing, will give Goldie & Big (I know you're out there), the chance to pull up & brew their own. Our staggered arrival will also speed up the re-fuelling process.

... its all a myth this coffee thing and ducatis.

Mind you there are quite a few on here that work damn hard to perpetuate it  laughingdp

I've even heard that some ducati riders even have the odd beer.

Will be great to have another along for the ride.

Well I have finally managed to organise my Saturday so I can make one of these DMF rides I hear so much about. I am in Erskineville so can meet somewhere in Newtown, otherwise can meet at Rouse Hill.
