All-

I'm trying to find out who is interested and can commit to riding the Devil's Highway again this year!   bow down

This is an annual ride a bunch of us have been doing for the past few years.  It's loosly organized by azride.com (Devil's hwy info here: http://azride.com/DevilsHighwayRun.html).  This year the day ride is on Saturday June 5th. We usually rent a cabin for 2 nights, head up to Greer/Springerville, AZ on the Friday prior, make the loop on Saturday that takes you down into New Mexico and back up Rte 191 (aka Rte 666, aka Devil's Highway), stay one more night, then ride back into the Phoenix area on Sunday morning.  It's about 750 miles round trip spread over 3 days with the longest day on Saturday.  Some of the best roads in AZ!

I am super busy this year with work, but hope to organize the lodging again depending on interest.  We've had some great cabins the last couple years with big garages to hold all the bikes and it works out to about $100 - $150 each person to cover both nights, you only need to budget gas and food outside that.  We will probably cook Friday's dinner and Saturday/Sunday's breakfasts at the cabin.

Please let me know if you're interested and I'll start working out lodging details!  If you have any suggestions, ideas, etc., please let me know.  Also- Let any others know who you think might be interested and able to put up with this group! Smiley

Must be a sign?  I just paid $6.66 for a Jamba juice and then saw this thread.  I guess I'm in?  Wink

Too bad my dad's place was a bit out of the way cuz we could all stay there!  PLENTY of room..just East of the AZ/NM border.  IIRC..it's east of that field of satellite dishes in the desert.

He lives near the VLA? I vote we stop there on the way!  Grin

Looking forward to the trip!

SOooo... that's about 9 or 10 we've got tallied up from emails and such, any one else interested?  We're trying to pick out a cabin! More details soon.  PM me your email address if you're in so I can send out more detailed lodging arrangements that way.  Who's picking up the egg beaters and spray-on pancakes this year?  Wink

I'm interested, but I heard there's a stretch that is about 120 miles without a gas station along the way.....is this true? any gas issues in the past?

Yep. longest stretch is about 100 miles between stations.  Never has been an issue.  Just don't forget to fill up when you see all the other bikes filling up!

The only gas issues we have seen in the past involved Mexican food.

Hello all, this is where the rubber meets the road...Time to put a deposit on the cabin!  Looks like the only one available with a garage is the same one we had last year, the Mountain View Lodge.  I'm hoping to get money collected in time to get a deposit on it before it's rented.  Everything else is filling up fast...  Same as last year I'll act a s escrow for the cabin.  Based on the response so far from people who are interested in going it wil cost each of us $125 to cover both nights.  If it ends up we get more people I can refund the difference, if less show up...I guess I'm eating it or will let everyone know what we need to close the gap.   The rental is going to be between $894 - $1112.

If you want to join us, but not getting my emails, please PM me your email address.

Here's the cabin description:  http://www.greercabinkeepers.com/cabins/mountain-view-lodge

You can make a payment to my PayPal account or email me to arrange an alternate way.  You all know where I live, or know someone who does, so....

PayPal link: ($125.00) https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=9P99G59BL3ZTW

As soon as I have enough collected to make the deposit (50%) I will call it in.

Need suggestions/volunteer for a chase vehicle (not necessary in my opinion, but helpful) and food.  There's a grill at the cabin.  I plan on organzing the breakfasts, but can use help.  Email your thoughts.

The trip is just around the corner, tell your friends!

Thanks...and can't wait to ride!

Update:

I paid the deposit to reserve the cabins - same pad as last year with big cabin, guest cabin, and big garage!  I've only received 4 payments so far....you know who you are (PayPal link in last post).  Still looking for ideas on food...  If you're on my email list and not going please let me know.  I think I know about people who are going but not staying in the cabin already.  If you know someone who is going, but is not copied on the emails, please pass it on and let me know!

IZ  - I don't have your email...let us know if you're in or out.

I have a question:

- How close are you to your maximum number of people? I mean, capacity for the cabin you're renting.

I want to go, but I'm not sure about the date yet.

We have about 12 who said they want to go, cabins sleep at least 15 because that's how many we had last year!  I figure we'll end up with about 10-12 this year.  Lot's of room, 2 big cabins, 5 car garage...etc., etc..... Come along!

Let me make something clear -- I spoon with no man.

But I do have some good experience with cooking delicious meals for large groups on multi-day trips with a modest budget.
