Separating front rotors from disc carriers - how ?

I want to take my front rotors off the carriers.

Have searched and read posts on loosening the rotor buttons but there doesn't seem to be anything on replacing rotors.

Was hoping there was some way to unspring the petal shaped spring washers. So far with gentle tapping and poking they don't want to leap off.

I'm presuming the buttons will need to be destroyed and new ones bought.

Yes you will need new buttons.

You used to be able to buy them from STM. Not sure if you still can.

Can get a good complete secondhand front wheel with rotors ( and a tyre ) for less than the cost of their buttons.

What's the reason for looking for buttons in the first place?

If you want to convert your rotors to full floaters on the cheap it can be done with a hammer, I never did it myself, but if you search the board others have.

Careful use of a C clamp and the right socket can turn the stock buttons into "better than semi but not quite full floaters" without the drama of the hammer.  You can even do it while they are on the bike.

flat surface 3 large sockets as spacers support  use 19mm or larger place socket over spacer and bash the ugly side with ball peen hammer  i have done it and it works well.

I had to put used rotors on after a shop bent my carriers on the stock snowflakes (that I had hammer floated). The used set did not respond to trying to float them

I'd like to put the stock rotors back on the current carriers but there's no way I can justify $150 for buttons.

Hoping to ultimately make my Dark the blackest one on the planet. Next job is the muffler/footpeg hangers, they will be easy, then the swingarm, maybe the engine cases.

Them goldy carriers, the Brembo m/cs and calipers, and that yellow rear shock spring MUST be black, ya know.........

People spend $$$$$$$$$$ on shiny bling. I prefer to squander my time rather than money, and there's not much black bling around.
