43T rear = 14t front?

Thinking of switching to a 43t rear on my monster s2r. From what I calculate it should be roughly equivalent to a 14t front sprocket without the possibility of rubbing the swingarm. Is this correct?

Nope - up three rear is ~ equal to one down front.

1/15 = 6.7%
3/41 = 7.3%

(2/41 = 4.9%)

What are you starting with in the rear....a 41 or 42?

If 41 then a 43 would be +2.  That's not too far off.  Certainly better than stock.


Stopintime is correct though.....1 on the front is equal to 3 on the rear.

Well I am all confused..  gearingcommander said 15/42, a 2005 s2r800 manual I have says the same.

How much can I expect it to throw the speedo off? Can I get it reflashed?

None, the speedo sensor isn't changed by gearing. Someone else feel free to chime in on why, I don't know all the details.

The speedo takes it readings from the spinning wheel.

yep. If you look at your caliper mount you will see a wire running to a black thing attached to the caliper mount. That thingy is a magnetic sensor that 'watches' your rotor nuts/studs go by. A little computer math and bam, you get your speed. The speedo reading has nothing to do with gearing or engine speed. Only your rear wheel speed
