I've got an '07 S4RS, I live in south west Florida & do a lot of night driving. There are more animals on the roads here at night, than any place I've ever been!
Does anyone have any comments, or experience with the brightest replacement bulbs? I know HID would be the brightest, but I'm looking for a cheaper, easier way out!

I just put a Toshiba HIR high beam bulb in my Bandit and its considerably brighter than OEM.

I don't know if they make an H4 bulb though.
'05 S4R (>47k mi); '04 Bandit 1200 (>92k mi; sold); '02 Bandit 1200 (>11k mi); '97 Bandit 1200 (2k mi); '13 FJR1300 (1k mi); IBA #28454 "45"

Did some looking and there doesn't seem to be an H4 base HIR bulb. About the most light we can get is from a  60/55W Ultra High Output Plus 50 (Narva Rangepower+50*) bulb. Some more info on that, here:

I love my PIAA Xtreme White Plus Bulb.  Had it for about 2 years now, maybe more.  It was about $25 shipped or so off eBay for a single.

Monsterparts sells a bulb for $10 plus shipping.  Not sure how good it is.

'whiter' but not overall brighter like the PIAA would be ;)

I love my PIAA extreme white.   [thumbsup]
If you love your bike, set it free.
If it comes back to you, you've
probably high-sided.

Looks like I can score a good HID for about the same price as a high end H-4 here: http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p=product&id=101&parent=85

Extreme white is very hard to see when caught in the rain.Just my two cents.

I agree with Duc996, the blue lamps have a lot of glare in the rain.

This spring I'm trying out Hella's 80/70W illegal as all h3ll offroad yellow H4.  Just did the numbers and I think the alternator can handle it and I'd rather burn the amps as light than under the seat as heat in the voltage regulator.  I'll let you know how it goes.  It looks very yellow at night, less so during the day, but enough so that it looks different and I'm hoping, more noticeable.

My bike looks old, and old bikes have crappy electrics, and crappy electrics make bulbs look yellow.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
