Looking at a couple of used superbikes... the 999 has 1500 miles on it... and the 848 has 3000 miles.... both $9000. I had the 848 and loved it... but got talked into selling it...  [bang]

Both bikes bone stock.

Talk to Mac900.  He used to ride a nicely modded '03 999 and has an 848 now.

I'd have to say go 999...both bikes are beauties, but I see a lot of 848s out there now, relatively.  I don't care for that, but don't know if that matters to you.  And as beautiful as the 848 is, the 999 to me is even more stunning.

Good problem to have, making a choice like this!

Since you already owned an 848, I would try and get a test ride (if possible) on the 999. You can make a decision then.
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

I test rode both bikes again... and the grin from the 999 was bigger. So I bought it. Thanks peeps!!

I never got why people disliked the 999s and 749s.  I saw a 749 dark and it looked amazing.  With that said, I am not a big fan of the exhaust.  Congrats....I'm tossing the idea of getting a 996 before they become too rare to find.

Just checked the specs...is the seat height really 30.7?  Thats great for my short legs.  Have to rethink things....

i think its only because it came out after what most Ducati lovers think is the most beautiful bikes ever...the 919 748,996,998.
If it would have been the new supersport people would have loved it, but its har to replace a icon. the 848 1098 would have ben a much better follow up.

I'm just kidding man, to each his own.
But WTF no boobies in the poll?

The 848 was in Texas and would need to be shipped out... the 999 was here and cheaper after negotiations... and well it rode awesome.

Good choice on the 999.  I think I would have gone that route as well.  My buddies old 999 was really nice, i only wish we had the chance to do some chassis set-up to it before it left his possession.

I'm still half looking around for one myself...

aside from different chassis, also think about the difference in clutches, and perhaps insurance rates as well.
