Pirelli rear and Michelin front?

I want to try out some new rubber so looking at going with a Diablo Rosso Corsa rear (replacing a Pilot Power 2CT).  But I still have about a half-life left on my front 2CT (3000 miles on it so far.)

Anybody run different makers like that (specifically these two?)  Thanks in advance!

No.  But I often wear different shoes on each foot.  Is that risky?

when I bought new tires, the parts guy recommended not mixing brands, as 'the tread patterns front/rear were designed to work together.'

idk... made sense to me at the time.

Stuck with the 2CTs.  It's a problem though, isn't it?  Back tires wear out more quickly than front, so you wind up in this catch-22: want to try new rubber, don't want to waste what I got (not rich enough, presently.)  Oh well.  I do like my Michelins, the Pirellis will have to wait...

You might want to consider a Pilot Road 2 for the rear instead of the Pirelli.  This has been done by others successfully.

I've had a Continental Road Attack on the back of my Sport 1000 for about 6000 miles. I've had a Michelin Pilot Road 2CT on the front for about 3000.

Still waiting for my bike to burst into flames from having mismatched tires on it.

Currently running a PilotPower on the front and a Diablo on the rear (it came this way) and I have had no issues even at near triple digit carving. I rode all last season and early fall/winter with them as I was getting used to the bike. I will say though, when I get this rebuild done and buy new tires in a few weeks I will get a matching set.

I was going to go with the Rosso Corsa on the back and keep my 2CT on the front, but it turned out the local Cycle Gear didn't have the Pirelli in stock, so the choice was made for me.  But I am going to try that next time (if I'm in the same situation.)  Want to give the Pirellis a roll...

Jacking my own thread here...but has anyone here tried both (2CTs vs. Rossos or Rosso Corsas)?  Curious as to what the differences might be.  My buddy with a 1098 really prefers the Pirellis, but so far I've only ridden on the Michelins and the Bridgestone BattleAxes that came stock (preferred the Power 2CTs.)

i always thought shape was more important than anything. Ive ran Pilot Power front and Pilot Road 2ct rear no problems.

the most important thing to know about tires is that they are properly inflated for the kind of use you will be using them for. If stuning you want maybe 10psi in them If carving up the blacktop , then I run 30/32 .Mismatched tires wont matter unless one on the front is not a 21 inch knobby and you are screaming into corners..........then you'll pronbaly be screaming in an ambulance. hahahahahahaha
I have fitted tires , lots of tires. I worked for suzuki as a mechanic many years ago. I must have put on thousands of tires in my time. Mismatched tires are far more common then you think.
Buy what you can afford , make sure its inflated properly and run the snot out of it.
