Whats a good Sake to buy.

I had Sake for the first time the other day and liked it, at first it tasted like warm vodka with a splash of beer in it but then it grew on me. Im sure what they had at the resturant wasnt the best. So if any of you know a thing or two about Sake let me know a good brand to get preferably under $100. I figured if I liked cheap stuff a higher quality should be even better. Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of cold unfiltered sake.  I think the proper name is Nigori.  I'm not a fan of warm beverages really so I stay away from the hot stuff.  I'm no expert on the stuff though and I have never spent more than $60 on a bottle.  Generally I stick with the bottles around $30 so I doubt they are very good compared to the expensive stuff.  I think I would just start trying things until you find something you like.  Sorry if that's not much help.

While in Japan, I would buy the little "cup and a half" glass jars (think japanese version of moonshine containers). Came in their own 4 pack and would go down easier than a... well, you get the idea. Never knew any of the brands (don't read kanji). But, there are lots of variations. Some sweet, some dry. Some kinda fruity. It really comes down to finding one you like (trial and error). You don't need to spend a fortune to get some good ones.

I like it warm or chilled. Depends on the mood. On a cold night, a small jar heated like a bottle of syrup is outstanding.

Momokawa Pearl is some of the best i've ever had...it's pretty cheap too around $20 ish
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Thanks,I will look to see if they have it in any of the local stores. I stopped in there yesterday and they carry a few from 10- 60 dollars. But they sell so little of it that they know nothing about each one. I suppose the best bet is to start by buying the cheapest and work my way up to see if it gets any better.I like these kinds of experiments.

Try kawa sake, should be easy to find.....cheap, good,made for the masses, just doesn't have the pose factor of more expensive brands. (goes well with squid)
