DID ERV3 chain incompatible with case saver insert?

I'm running a DID ERV3 520 chain & stock 15T countersprocket with a Desmotimes case saver insert - the results are thus

are the links just beefier dimensionally on the ERV3 chains, causing the rubbing on the case saver insert? Do I have to swap in a 14T countersprocket to run this setup, or merely switch to a VL or VM or some other lower spec chain?

I ran across that same problem with one of those case-savers, but can't remember the bike or the chain.  :P

IIRC, it was with a 15t sprocket, and I think I tried it on another bike with a 15t sprocket and it fit.  ???

they make a DS1000 version and a non DS1000 version. Maybe you got the mmixed up?

I had the same thing happen to me.  I couldn't get the case saver installed and the chain installed.  I thought I was just doing something stupid (as usual).  I think I still have that case saver in my garage...

The clearance is very tight on the small case motors with a 15 tooth.  Mine did the same with a D.I.D. VM and 15 tooth.

Everybody knows you shouldn't use a 15t sprocket on a Ducati.

I have the same set up (w/ AFAM sprockets), and mine seems fine.

I guess YMDV.

On my '95 m900 I have some scrapes on my case saver. It's a very close fit but the gouges aren't as deep as yours. If I slack on chain maintenance I notice that the scrapes get shiny again. Also happens as the chain wears.

I couldn't get it to fit on my '03 800 Dark with DID 520 and 15t front.  I sold mine.

I have to take the clutch slave off to make it fit...

Did that.  Still didn't fit. :(

What brand was it?

There was one "of some other brand" that i put on another bike that required grinding/trimming to get it on with an aftermarket slave cylinder, but that had nothing to do with chain/sprocket interference...I just don't remember the brand.

scott_araujo

I got it from Desmo Times.  I probably could have taken a hammer to it and made it fit but I wasn't in the mood.

Chain's adjusted within spec; I polished the ruts out, brushed it with heavy moly-loob and put it back in. Super tight but I don't think it rubs now. LT emailed me and said it was supposed to fit. I think they obviously vary.
