Corrosion around gas cap

Bought the bike with a bit of corrosion around the gas cap and on one of the rearsets. I'll just sandblast the rearsets and get 'em pc'ed but the gas cap has me a bit weak in the knees. Thinking that I will have to sand it, mask it off and repaint it. I don't like the idea of sandpaper getting anywhere close to my gas tank but I'm not sure of any other way to do this.

Anybody else have this problem?

Or better yet... Anybody have a solution?

Remove it, and then blast and re-spray.

While you're there...

replace the fuel filter.

Rough estimate on time, difficulty, cost of fuel filter, etc.?

Filter is about $3.50 from NAPA.

It will take 15 minutes to remove the parts.

I figure you'd get it done over a weekend and after dry time have it back on the road in less than a week.

What's going to be the best way to drain the gas out of the tank? Haven't really touched this part of the bike before except for propping up the tank.

Get yourself a siphon rig to drain the tank.

I doubt yours has a drain plug.
