Backyard brick pizza oven?

I've wanted to build one for a long time, and now that I have a three week old baby, I feel like I have the time and money to invest into this project.  Or I'm insane.

Either way, this is a project that I've been researching and I'd love to do.  Anyone have any personal experience they'd like to share?

I'm voting for the "insane" choice.   No experience here, but just wanted to wish you good luck with the project.

I grew my beard when I was home for 6 weeks' parental leave with my son after he was born. I couldn't find time to shave!

Yeah, I think we got a good one, she's easy as can be.  She only cries when she's hungry (and not much then) and she sleeps great, especially at night.  We get a good five hours of sleep in one stretch every night, and usually only get up twice a night (if we want to sleep in, sometimes only once).  So maybe I'm not as insane as the voices in my head say?

Of course, managing a wine shop does keep me well stocked on good wine and beer, so maybe I'm not insane, just drunk.  Weird.  I don't feel drunk...

If your going to make a built in brick oven, you better make it so it doubles as BBQ grill to!!!! Good job with the kid! One of my friends had a baby back nov, and her husband was a zombie for about 4 months. Missed the whole football season and then some.

I have a friend who grew up in Rome and insisted on building his own backyard pizza oven. It makes the most amazing 'za- and I don't even like Roman style pizza.

Actually since a pizza oven is used for food prep, it is legal to use even on no burn days, as long as its not commerical use. 


There are several free plans and internet groups concerning out door pizza ovens,  I'm going to build one in my back yard...

they can cost anywhere from really cheap (200) to really expensive.
