"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

We had the USS New Jersey BB-62 off the coast of Lebanon in 83. They fired these bad boys for us. The sound of the shells passing overhead was incredible.

Isn't that depleted uranium?

Anyway as it was explained to me on the Constellation (CV64) each gun has to be programmed  as to it's firing window, lest they track an object to a point where part of the ship is in the way. They have a tendency to shoot off any part of the ship that gets in the way of the target.

speaking of all things navy...... my son is testing for nuke school up in portland in a couple weeks.

Sweet Joel!!

And they most likely don't use depleted rounds for that weapon system.  That sort of material is best used for punching through armor (think tank), not necessarily for taking out aircraft.

Kopfjäger

You might find those rounds on this puppy.  [evil]

why didn't they bomb the hell out of the mothership anyway?  consider it target practice.

Now that's what I am talking about.  Nothing quite like the sight of an A-10 turning in on its terminal run to take out some talibaddies that have been harassing you for the last couple of hours.  Well, now that I think about it, maybe one other aircraft has close to the same effect.   [evil]

You are correct. The CIWS fire DU rounds. Very bad for the target...

Yea, that's what the Gunners mates told me. DU rounds... When those things fire it shakes that whole part of the ship.

Wouldn't fat air be easier to disappear into?

Is he looking towards subs or targets (surface)?  Tell him good luck!   [thumbsup]
