After a couple of days of haggling, I had a done deal with a private seller for his 2002 SBK. The price was not too low, maybe $500 off his asking price. He gave me his address and we set up a time to pick up. I made the necessary arrangements for transport as I am approx 3 hours away. This is Wednesday night.

Thursday morning I get a call from him. He decided to take the bike for a "final farewell ride" (I'm sure you know where this is going) and went through a turn, lost the rear end on some sand, and ended up wrecking the bike and put himself in the hospital. The bike low sided and then hit the grass and flipped over. He says that there's obvious frame damage.  I had one of my friends call him a bit later posing as a "excited" prospective buyer and he told him the same sad story.

I just sold my Monster. Once I had an agreement with the buyer, I took time to clean it, adjust and lube the chain, and get all of the accessories together. I didn't ride it. Saying bye to my baby was really hard, but was tempered by the idea of better things to come. Now I am bikeless, and back on the slow hunt for a 2002 SBK  bang head

Thanks for letting me vent DMFer's

Dude, I didn't know you were selling the 1098. You're keeping the toasty bike though, yeah?

I'm pretty sure his house would be surrounded by folks with pitch forks if he tried to sell the toasty bike (actually, people would still be supportive of him selling it, because it means so much to him that he wouldn't sell it unless he absolutely HAD to).

yup..... I want  a smaller displacement track only bike, like a honda cbr 600rr and a bike more suited for touring with Michelle.

I'll always keep the monster (unless real mean hells angles types come and kill me)

I know, it's so frustrating. It was pretty hard to find that bike and to find it somewhat close by. 7k miles, prestine, termis and I got him down to a good price. There was a 2004 998 Final Edition for sale that I would have snagged, but it was in Arizona. This bike was 3 hours away.

The guy was a young guy, out of the military and with twins on the way. I would hate to see what his wife had to say after he called her to tell her he "high-sided the money for the baby"  bang head

Well, look on the bright side-at least you're not him. Wrecked twin with twins on the way.  Wink
