mono Rearsets / SR passenger pegs?
«
on:
April 07, 2010, 03:31:28 AM »
couple of questions for you mod experts - the bike is 2002 750 (dsS)
1. is it possible to install the newer SR style passenger pegs on older DSS bikes
so i dont have to run the pass pegs all the way from my foot controls? (just a bit ugly imo)
2. if i broke my brake lever on my cycle cats what are my options? i cant find cycle cat parts anymore,
but it doesnt look like they are similar to stock. is there anything that will fit?
thanks in advance guys, i did search but didnt find anything wading through threads

1. No. The swing arm mounts are the problem. I'm assuming you're running highmount exhaust or and ex-box as the stock rearsets also hold up low mount cans, which you need to consider.
Alternatives are
- Rizoma, has removable braces for low cans
- Moto wheels - sells mono sets (I have a set of these gathering dust if you're interested, I'll gie you the details). One gotcha with these is the need to use a pressure switch to the rear brakes, the stock clicker doesn't have a mount.
- Some third one I'm forgetting
2. Ebay or pray to a couple of the folks here who have the machine skills and tools to make you a new one. Sorry, can't remember names of the top of my head - but some hunting should turn that info up. Someone was making replacement peg carriers.

I have made a few different Cycle cat parts but, I haven't made new levers. If you still have the lever and would be willing to send it to me I will see if I can make one. I would aslo be interested in the gear shift lever if anyone has one.

thanks a lot for the replies guys
1. yes the bike has high mounts. i guess an option is to get the low mount
with passenger pegs and just let them hang?
2. some dude - the lever is gone, how about i just send the whole right side controls?
you would make me a happy dude!
p.s. give me the lever at a good ol boy discount and ill send you the gear shift lever for you
to template as well

Yuu, I think he's asking if he would make the S*R style passenger pegs work on a DSS monster, not the rearsets.
As far as I know they can be made to work, but it requires making some mounting tabs for them and welding those to the frame, which of course then means painting the frame, and when all is said and done, the flat part of the peg itself won't point up, since angle of that section of the frame is different between the SSS and DSS bikes. Still I think it's a viable option for passenger pegs as I too find the passenger pegs hanging off the rearsets to be incredibly ugly.

Too right - I flubbed that one.
Follow A.duc.H.duc. advice and ignore mine

Realize the poster is asking about passenger pegs but I just wanted to throw out a correction.
You can mount S2R rearsets on a DSS Monster. Its been done by a few people here on the board.

If you machine a new CycleCat-type brake lever for the S*R bikes, I'd purchase one.

I could do that if you have a bent or broken one that I can copy. Redial sent me the whole brake side of the rearsets and I have a dss bike so I can make something that fits. I don't think that would work for the s*r rearsets because I don't have a bike to set them up on. I'm still looking for a pic of the brake side of a dss bike with cycle cat rearsets if anyone could help me out.

My bike's a daily rider. What approximately would be the turn-around time?

I would only need it for a day or two to draw it up then I could send it back. It might take a couple weeks to get a new one to you the biggest delay would be waiting to have enough stuff to take to annodize, as they have a $75 minimum.
