So whats best, what do you use?

Just looking at the winter storage thread, and after giving the bike a tub, and then a bit of a polish, I noticed that the polish I was using left the paint in a static state, attracting dust onto the paint. When cleaning/polishing the screen I used Plexus which is antistatic and left the screen feeling smooth and clean, on the carbon cans I found a product which is heat resistant and leaves a nice finish and is suitable to spray onto engines, its called S100.

       So I was wondering what is the best for paintwork which is antistatic and leaves a excellent finish, also tyres, glass, chrome, alloy or any other finish we have on our bikes.

And any good car polish for the paint work .

Chain cleaner seems to work OK.

Was always told Mr Sheen (not so good for tyres and brakes though). Unfortunately it does work well on Black ... or maybe its plastic - so I can't use it on my bike.

Try WD40 for the grease.
mineral turps is good as well for heavy grease. it will dry and then
Wd40 and wipe of the excess

 Mr Sheen....... All I used on Sugar & the virgins...... She was always bright and shiny....  

Just keep clear of the brakes, forks and seat.......

I use WD-40 (not the cheap alt) to clean the rear wheel and chain and sprocket, then I use Lanotec lanolin spray on the chain, but you got to make sure you use plenty of rags to clean off the WD-40.

Good old diesel fuel to clean grease off the swingarm and wheels, don't splash it on just dip a rag and wipe. Then rinse with water. Good as a degreaser on engines too. (smells nice as the engine warm up)
Turtle wax on the tank fairing and front guard, armor all on all the other plastic bits.
Make sue its a cotton cloth to polish the tank etc. to limit the static build up.
Tyres, well..I don't go anywhere near them with any product.
As for the seat I don't use anything but soap and water, however,I have seen on another thread on the main board that you can get stuff for a snowmobile seat that is not slippery.
Personally I'm not a big fan of WD40 cos it's a penetrant, I'm concerned it will get into bearings and contaminate the grease.

Agree with the diesel.  I used to use kero for the same purpose on my old bike when you could still get kero from the bowser.  A splash of kero in a bucket of warm water and car wash stuff will remove all but the most stubborn grime.

i use WD40 to wipe off my chain and any grease or fling etc.
meguiars final inspection for the paint and my helmet
mothers or meguiars car wash, DON'T use cheap car wash, it contains caustic soda and will strip your wax in seconds and over time it will accelerate oxidation, fading, discolouration of paintwork.
meguiars cleaner wax, it has a very slight abrasive and leaves a fantastic finish that lasts very well.
i dress my carbon fibre with inox.

Mick, just talking about paint, on the fancy bike (the duke) after a good wash & chamois; I use a Meguiars clay bar (this leaves it extra smooth so less sticks to it or any quality clay bar*) and Auto-Glymm deep polish, then any reputable gel wax or clear coat safe wax. Now the trick to keeping it clean, is basically covering it. If I'm riding the bike regularly a soft clean towel gets thrown over the fancy painted parts. If longer a proper bike cover (one lined on the inside); 4 years on and several trophies later, bike still looks killer... can't be doing too much wrong?

One chap I work with said he uses silicone spray on all his paint work, I will have to find out what he meant by this exactly, I'm gunna give the diesel a go this week, see how it goes, then I'm going to try Plexus on a side panel and see how that goes.

hope he never needs a paint touch up! painters will chase him out of the shop with his parts if he tells them that!
silicone contaminates paint very easily, fish eyes, dimples, all sorts of problems that are very hard to resolve even with thorough cleaning the smallest trace can ruin hours of prep and the end result.

Tried Plexus on a side panel and rear of tank, cant say I was to impressed, but boy does this stuff make your screen (for those that have them) and dash face look brand new.
Mr Sheen will get a go soon.

now a question....

has anyone stuff up the paint finish, scratched it with a dirty cloth (not the bike thank god).....cause I did a awful job of the wifes car today and think I just rubbed dirt into the finish (it hadn't been washed in over 2 years)...so I need to cut it back right...

can someone help?
