Yeah... go ahead, point and laugh  :P ;D.

OK, so I realise that this is perhaps the dumbest question ever asked... but there's no way I'm gonna leave the oil in my M1100 for the scheduled 12,000kms....soooo there I am with my 12mm allen-head socket wrench at the ready to remove the usual Ducati sump plug.....and..... there it isnt... WTF??...  [bang] [laugh]

Sooooo... which of you geniuses would like to tell me which of the 2 tiny allen-headed plugs is the sump plug then??

When did they change it to a 12mm allen?

I always thought they were all 10mm except the testastretta motors.

I know for my 696 I had to get a 14mm socket style hex to remove the secondary filter, but I believe you're right duc that it's a 10mm for the other 2 plugs.

The main drain plug should be directly underneath the oil level check window on the bottom of the engine. Not on the side.

Speeddog

AFAIK, it's the one in the left case half.

I think '09 and later Monsters have the new thinwall case castings, with the new drainplug location.

um.. y'all could be correct about it being 10mm (I cant remember from my 696), but point is there is no 10mm (or 12mm) or any drain plug even close to as large as that under there... just the 2 that can be seen in this pic....

...I'm guessing that its not the larger of the 2, directly below the screen filter... but can it really be that lil' guy just to the left of the crankcase join??   :-\

Thanks Speeddog  [thumbsup].

I took a look in the parts catalogue as Raux suggested and yup, you're quite correct.  The wiener is the drain plug.  Why would they change it to something so tiny??  My stock of crush washers just became obsolete.... lol.

Ok, oil change complete and so here's what I learned:  Screen filter still is 14mm allen wrench.  Drain plug is 5mm allen wrench.

So....is the prescreen filter the large plug on the side of the case just under the sight glass?  I know, I know, noob question, but it's the first time I change the oil on a Duc.  [roll]
