Stranded in San Diego - bike is misbehaving

I need some help here. I rode from LA to SAn Diego and upon getting here, the bike started jerking at stops.  Now when I try to start it I get the red oil warning, the ignition clicks, but no start up.  Gas light is not on, I charged the battery last night, fuses are all fine.  Can someone give me an idea of what's going on?  Also, it isn't doing it anymore but the gauges would flicker and not do the usual calibration of the dials.

I don't know what else to describe, could it need time to cool down? ???

How old is the battery?  That would be my first guess

Check the ground to the motor (right side near the crankcase breather).

Why would the oil light be on?

Mine stays on until the bike is running. AFAIK, it means "hey the key is on but my oil pressure is low!" which is irrelevant unless the bike is running.

And at least you're stuck in San Diego, and not some hellhole like Tijuana, Colorado, or New Hampshire (You can tell them apart as Tijuana has less snow, and New Hampshirites talk funny).
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

My 696 was doing similar things,(ignition clicks and all) and it turned out to be a bad battery. I had it on a battery tender and It showed full charge, the volt gauge on the bike read 12.5v. It died on the fourth day of commuting to work.

at least you can find a shop/Ducati dealer nearby, GP motors?

Yes, thankfully I'm not in Tijuana, though I still dont know my way around.

I'm wondering hat placed will be open tomorrow. Might be the battery though that doesn't explain the jerking when the revs dropped upon arrival.

I'll try to run start it tomorrow too.  Is it dangerous to fill it with gas while it is running??  Probably, right?

Unless you have two keys with you how would you open the tank with the bike on?  :P

If it's running I would shut it off, get gas, and if the battery is dead, you can always roll start it.

Howie

Alternator output is low at low engine speeds, which can cause problems when a fuel injected bike has a bad battery.  Get the battery load tested, check the battery connections and the ground on the engine as described by Pompetta.  Don't just look, disassemble and clean.  If the battery and connections are good the bike should now start.  Now it is time to check charging system output.  Ummm...2007?  Still under warranty?

The bike started up this morning so I'm hoping it does again when I'm ready to leave and when I have to stop for gas.  I will check my battery connections before riding.

The temperature got to 267, is that abnormally high??  This is so weird.  I'm sure the solution is going to be simple as shit.

I made it back to LA, the bike started fine.  Looks like a ghost in the machine.  I'll be checking the battery connections and I'll have it load tested.  The battery is only 3 months old and it was on a tender until i left.  While I'm at it I might replace the spark plugs and check the solenoid and starter circuit.  Might be time to pick up a digital volt ohm meter as well as my own load tester.

If it were my bike , 267 would be extremely high.
