So, once he got the back end out like that, how could he have saved himself from high-siding?

There I go again, trying to make it all educational.

Stay on the gas and pray to whatever god you think will help you.

Sometimes, even if you consciously try not to chop the throttle, the rear wheel steps out enough that it yanks your hand off the throttle and you head sky high.

There's a youtube video out there somewhere of me highsiding in Turn 9 at Sears Point, along with the subsequent cool X-rays and CAT scans.   :'(

I was going to say the same thing about how you can see where he chops the gas. He might have been better off to stay in the throttle and let it low side. But that's really just bad Monday morning quaterbacking on my part. Just really glad he's OK and didn't get nailed by the bike or a following rider. [thumbsup]

I've lowsided and highsided both a number of times, and I really prefer lowsiding.  My first highside was at Turn 11 at Laguna Seca (it was called Turn 9 back then) and I was slammed into the pavement like someone was using me to crack a whip.  The back of my helmet was stove in.

Yeah, I'll take the lowside anytime over that kinda fun.

That, my friends, is wisdom that only a wealth of experience teaches.   [clap]

i know that guy.  he insists he didn't chop the throttle.  /shrug

apparently that corner is off camber and was a little dusty when he tried a different line.  it didn't work.

I threw this one together back on the 5th
