A little off topic:
I was in Canada in December/January & scored tickets to see Buffalo & Leafs play in Buffalo, 8 rows behind the goalie. It was awesome to see, never would have thought I would see a NHL game.

The Leafs had nothing & they will be lucky to see the playoffs within the next 5 years.

The thing that stuck in my mind most was the puck being fired into the glass, it's like a gun going off. And one player that stuck out most was playing for the Sabres, he would have been at least 7 feet tall, I think his name was Myers  ???

And a fight nearly breaking out on the way out of the stadium, some dickhead yelling out "DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE MAN!"  [roll]

And it was fricken cold.  :P

Cold is relative...

That would have been Myers, and he's not quite 7' (6'8").  This is his rookie season in the NHL and he's only 20!!!  He is doing an amazing job against the Bruins.  All the Sabres defense is....the offense is no where to be found.   [bang]

Next time your in town (Buffalo) look me up, we'll have to grab a drink.

Im sorry...19 straight years making the playoffs (that is a professional sport ongoing record), 1st time in ten years starting a series on the road....I can see why you hate the Wings. We are the yankees of hockey...I know, I know. But, sadly I dont think its our year.

Glad to see the Habs finally in it, and to take a game in Washington was HUGE.

Seems the 1st round will be interesting with a bunch of the lower seeded teams taking the 1st game.

God, I love Hockey playoffs!!!

Glad you stipulated it was an active record because the record for most Most Consecutive Playoff Appearances

29-Boston Bruins, 1968-96
28-Chicago Blackhawks, 1970-97
25-St. Louis Blues, 1980-2004
24-Montreal Canadiens, 1971-94
21-Montreal Canadiens, 1949-69

They still have a way to go to get into the record books but I wouldn't bet against them just yet.

Hawks vs  this is where I'm having problems I don't think the Caps have the goaltending but I like the offensive fire power.

ahhh what the hell last year I got it right with wings - pen  Pens winning in 7 this year it is Hawks Pens Pens in 6.

Boy, you guys took that a little too literally. I thought people would understand my frustration. Still sucks the same.

And this is how a "true own goal" is scored:

Sorry about the confusion, but what I was asking was how a true own goal would be recorded I guess.  Who would get credited with the goal?  I would think an empty net errant pass would be a good way to score an own goal as well.

Own goals are given to the last opposing player who touches the puck, always funny when it was the goalie!  Beer leagues it is given to the player with the least number of goals outside of the goalie i.e. pity goal!

I knew I would get flamed by posting that....but what the Hell, we are talking Hockey.  ;D Im still not convinced on Chicago going the distance. Not sure if its the youth or what, but they seem to get rattled the further they go.

That was only a minor flame, originally I was going to say St. Louis I thought had the record at 25 years but I decided to check just to make sure ...

I managed to see two Detroit games this year (yea for free tickets, thank you Coca-cola, and Kraft) love the arena it has such a good vibe.  Prior to this year I've been to Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal games, next year Boston, NY Rangers, and I'm going to try to get to Nashville vs Detroit game some time just to expiernce that environment.

As for the Hawks making it .... I think I still see Hawks-Detroit western final, and the Hawks being just a little bit fresher and Howard not being able to raise his game that one notch more.  Just my thoughts.

Round one

West
SJ over Avs
Van over LA
Hawks over Preds
Detroit over Phx

East

Pens over Sens (Booooo)
Caps over MTL
Flyers over Devils
Sabers over Bruins

Yes, JLA is a great place to see a game. Not a bad seat in the house, the concourse is lacking and the restrooms need a refresh, but stilll a great building.

So that would be a SJ/Det and Van/Chi matchup for round 2. Hmm...tough call there.

Why?

Detroit stomped San Jose in the regular season and the Sharks aren't really setting the NHL on fire in the post-season either.
Granted, Detroit isn't doing as well as I would have liked right now but they are the lower seeded team and Phoenix is arguably a much better team than the Avs.

than the Avs? did you mean the wings or am I misreading?

I say that because although, they should beat the sharks I think they are just getting tired and sloppy, tho the win the other night was pretty nice and they looked good. the question is whether or not they'll be able to keep that up. If they can then they'll take the sharks, if not, SJ will probably advance.
