Fork Upgrade for S2R1000
«

Dont ask why, i just feel like i can get away with better forks for a only a few hundred bucks if i sell my old stuff. Anyway....
What do you guys think about the following options...
848 forks + calipers, would take very little work. Monstermash did a nice write up, all i need are 2 spacers, 2 shims, and 1 bored triple, these are 25mm catridges i believe and im not sure if they have hi/lo compression damping.
To my understanding the 1098 forks have a larger spacing on the calipers, and i wouldnt be able to use them anyway because id have to swap rotors, and 1098 rotors are 5 bolt not 6.
From time to time there are also 50mm forks that will fit right onto my bike on ebay, such as R6, or ZX6 or CBR forks that have 25mm Ohlins catridges. They i think have all the adjustibility and can be had for $500 bucks sometimes. But im unsure of the caliper spacing. Not sure if i would need to run Nissins or if i can throw on 848/M1100S or S4Rs calipers ( i think those are 100mm)

i think you're opening a huge can of worms... but a tasty can of worms at that.
talk to theo, he's got 1098's on his S4R...
Personally, i like to stick inside the Ducati family when it comes to frankensteining a bike together... but that's just me.
i say go for it dude..
just don't let anyone dump a truckload of chicken grease on it when you're done...

just wanted to ask this general questions
the Matris F05R catridge kit is a 25mm kit. people have praised it for a while and i coudlnt find anyone who sells it
the larger SBK forks are 43mm, what do these 2 numbers refer to?
I just sniped some 848 forks on ebay
now for the brakes, then calipers, then the machined parts....

Why not just put an Ohlins UES kit in your stock forks and adjust the springs if needed? There really isn't anything wrong with the stock forks, the valving just isn't very aggressive. There's always 4-pads off of a 749 if you get bored with the stock brakes. And it all fits and looks factory.

i alreayd have racetech valves in mine.
i just want a better fork in general....and radial brakes.
The rebound and compression circuits are suppose to be shared and reduce performance compared to forks with 2 seperate circuits.

the 25mm is the diameter of the cartridge that inside of the fork tube. the cartridge roughly resembles a car shock. on our inverted forks, the body of the cartridge on the bottom, with the cartridge pumping rod on top.
helpful pic
you could have always bought from MatrisUSA.com @ full price.
on the SBK forks you're on your own on that one. it might be the same thing as the matris, but donkey size.

What kind of adjustments are on the 848 forks?
Can anyone explain these terms to me?
what does the 43 mean when they describe the Showa 43mm forks?
What makes the 20mm and 25mm kit different?
WHats in the 848 fork?

1098 forks have same lowers as 848 forks (and 696?). The rotor is 330 on 1098's, and the caliper has a 5mm spacer under it to adjust it outwards.
A LOT of people use 320 mm rotors with the 1098 with great success (borat?).
1098's have the DLC on the bottoms, 848's dont. Internal valving is the same to my knowledge.
I have multiple pairs of 1098 and 848 forks at my disposal, so let me know if I can be of help.
1098 mono block calipers + Brembo GP or RCS master = one finger stoppies. It's almost too much...so I've adjusted my RCS to allow a bit lazier braking. The 999r/2v project has the same setup but with axis rotors and more aggressive pads. That thing is going to be scary on the brakes
L8BRKR is the plate I'm going for

i dont think so either
how much of an upgrade will i see in fork performance between my racetech showas and the stock 848 forks?
it all i need are brake calipers, shims and bored out top triple and im set. but is it worth the hassle. i can always sell these 848 forks...
I have buyers remourse

i'm not poking fun, but don't get so worried. i'm in the same boat as you. i took a shot in the dark and not 100% that the fork i bought will fit easily.
