New guy here...
«
on:
April 14, 2010, 06:41:06 PM »
Hi. I'm a new member here. A veteran of the forum, somegirl, suggested that I introduce myself again in the local forum, so here I'm. Without being redundant, here's what I wrote on the other page:
...and I'm an storyboard artist residing in Southern California. I have been riding for about 3.5 years and I currently ride an '07 Honda CBR600RR. I would like to migrate over to a 696 soon, so I can have a more relaxing experience than being on a crotch rocket. And speaking in related to all things speedy, I have the pleasure of working in an office across the street from the Toyota Grand Prix... traffic is annoying but I enjoy seeing the track being prepped ready for the race.
I look forward to learning from you guys.

Thanks. I live in Monterey Park, which is about 5 miles south of Pasadena and/or 10 miles east of downtown LA. Good Chinese food here.

Yeah, I hope to get it soon, too. I dropped off my bike at Asylum Motorcycles over at City of Industry with my friends there. They'll probably sell it for me, and I will be on and around looking for... most likely a 696. I'm very fond of 600cc bikes, even though many have told me that I'll grow out of them. But so far I find them to be a great balance between power and handling.

+1 on the 696. I also have a Sport 1000, but my 696 is my daily commuter. I'm 5'10" 160, and it fits me great. EASY to ride, great ergos, and enough power to keep it interesting. I just put a 14 tooth front sprocket, and a set of Termis on it. Yippeee!!

Haha, I'm trying to steer away from sportbike for awhile. But thanks for the offer. Nice bike! Here's the one they have available at my friend's shop:

Yeah, I've read quite a few articles suggesting the sprocket replacement. I'll definitely keep that in mind and be mindful of the difference.
On a related note, my RR:

Just to let you know! I saw a brand new 2010 monster 696 with all the goods on it ,only has 57 miles on it! Its over at Bartails Harley. They took it as a trade in. They only want $8000 but I bet someone could take her home For under $7000. Check it out!!!

Get some bar raisers for the RR and call it a day. The Monster isn't a sofa by any stretch of the imagination and you'll be loosing a bunch of power and agility. Just my .02 cents as a former 620 owner.
Maybe the performance envelope has improved with the 696 but the suspension is still bargin basement FWIR. The CBR600rr is light years ahead of the the baby duc in all areas expect low end grunt and maybe styling (if that's your thing
).
If you've tested the 696 and you're ok with the swap please disregard my .02 cents!

Welcome!
I'm happy with my 696, but can't say much of the difference between 600s because I don't have that kind of experience. There's a deal going on at Spectrum with low financing and free gear when you buy a "superbyke", as Rob types it, but I don't know if that includes the Monsters...

truth about the suspension, but if sprung properly it's fine for most. I mean, yeah, it's not Ohlins or anything.
as for stylin.. all those modern bikes look like electric shavers anyway.

I'm not disregarding anything. Thank you for the breakdown. I will definitely make careful decisions after testing a 696 out. FWIW, I'm okay with the performance downgrade, since I want to just be away from a sportbike for awhile. M696 has a classy design and will likely discourage some of the douchebag drivers in VWs always trying to win against a bike.
