Im take a trip this summer on my S2R1K. Unfortunately there will be times that I will be stuck on a highway for 200+ miles at a time. Anyone use a throttle lock? Other options?

I have a Cramp Buster and it works well enough, but you still have to keep your hand on the throttle.  Depending on your bar end arrangement, you can make a friction lock with an o-ring...just roll it into position when you need a break.

I don't use that shit.  it's prone to errors and I've seen too many friends lose it because of this.  electronic cuise or nothing at all for me.

And the electornic cruz that you use?Huh? And how do you figure that a throttle "lock" is prone to errors? It either works or it dosen't---yes?

I have a throttle lock, and love it. Works great, very little problems, and perfect when on a highway that doesn't have a ton of traffic. I highly recommend it. Mine was on my bike when I bought it though, so I don'tknow what they run lol

A customer had a throttlemeister on his ST2 a few years ago.  Tried it a few times and love it -- but had to send back later.  Purchased one I found on eBay and lightly modified for use on my DesmoDevil.  Love it.

I ran without mirrors for four years and two years with left barend style only. (Throttlemiester on the right the whole time) Thus need to adapt the throttlemeister to work with a righthand bar end mirror to make the bike 100% legal.

Now if I could just combine a righthand bar mirror, throttlemeister and LED signal into one unit... and keep it all as small as possible...

I did my own with the stock bar ends. I took the bar end off slightly enlagred the bar side hole with a drill press so a spring would fit in it around the bolt. Then I epoxied the bolt to the bar end. Once that dried I made a 1/8" washer from alluminim to go between the hand grip and the bar end. So the spring keeps tension on the bolt when its not tight to keep it from falling out, I marked the bar end so I know what position it was in then you can roll it forward about a quater turn and your throttle will stay where you put it. Ive had it like that for 5k miles and never had a problem with it .

I meant to say the rider - when dozing on straights and so on - is prone to errors.  You're right it works or it doesn't and I had it on my previous bike but hated it because I'd have to adjust it to pass and keep a steady speed.  I now have electronic cruise and love it.  And for the cruise assist, saw my buddy in my rear view come around a corner and take a spill as he went to adjust his grip....

I've used the crampbuster styled device, but could not get use to it.  My wrist was not as sensitive as my fingers and found that the bike was a lot more surge-y.

I use a Throttlemeister on my ST3. It's perfect for long highway rides and I use it often. Highly recommended.waytogo

On my Monster I run one of those crampbusters and it works quite well. Worth every bit of $10.

Long read, but bear with me!  I've got carpal tunnel issues with both hands.  I'm not ready to stop riding, and I4's do nothing for me, so resting both hands constantly and/or throttle lock is an absolute for me.

On my old '81 R100RS, the OEM throttle had a small friction screw, was easily settable for just enough friction to barely hold it in place, but easily rotate the grip where you wanted it.  I never had to reset it.  Come 2004, look for the same screw on my BMW R1100S, not there (liability lawyers  Angry), so I went with the Throttlemeister, as it doubled as a bar end weight.  Well made, does what it's supposed to, but never got used to it, it was hard to adjust while riding, and seem to always have too much friction.  But then, I'm looking for something more than a lock, something to relieve workload on my hand, even when I'm twisting the throttle.

Then ran across a thread where someone rigs a counterforce spring on the grip, to balance the throttle spring.  Basically, attach one end of a tension spring to the grip, wrap the other end around the grip in the right direction to counteract the throttle spring, then attach spring end to handlebar.  Depending on how tight you tension the spring, you can set it so the throttle stays where you put it, or just counteracts a lesser amount of the throttle spring.  I set mine so the throttle stays where I put it when my gloved hand is touching the grip, but not "gripping" the grip.  As soon as I loose contact the throttle begins moving back to idle.  The amazing part of this is there is NO additional friction to the throttle, it's not a lock!  The throttle now acts like a very precise adjustment "knob", because you dont have to hang on to it.

On my Beemer, I attached one end of the spring to the grip with a zip tie, wrapped it around the bar-end weight, then anchored it to the weight with a small screw.  Then I loosened the bar-end attachment screw, rotated the bar-end to get the spring tension I wanted, then tightened the attach screw.  Unbelievable relief and preciseness! And because its not a lock, it's safer I think, especially if you set it as I did, to go back to idle (albeit slowly) on losing contact of the grip.

If you just want to try it, you can just rig something using zipties, tape, etc to attach the spring, just to see if you like it, before you rig something more sanitary looking!

I've got a crampbuster on my Monster right now, but my hand has been acting up a lot lately, so I just found another spring in my scrap bin, and it's going on this weekend!  Jeff [moto]

Crampbuster does nothing for me, since it's the angle of the wrist that gives me pain. I haven't gotten a throttle lock for the Monster yet. I'm definitely going to get one for the VFR. A 'smart' cruise control would be nice, but even a couple minutes off the throttle bar would be a godsend.
