Rizoma Rear Sets brake side rubber band
«

So I've had Rizoma rear sets on my M1100S for a couple months and the rubber band on the brake side broke today. Glad I spend $650 and get a rubber freakin band brake return. What quality...
Anywho, does anybody out there have a suggestion for a better alternative to the quickly deteriorating rubber band they are so kind to supply?

my rubber band has 2000 miles and 2 years on it. still works great. they even give you an extra one.
some people have found a way to fit an exhaust spring, but i find it TOO heavy at that point. give the rubber band a go for a while, you will get used to it. i find it easier to use my rear brake LIGHTLY now.
is it a bit disappointing when you first see it, i know... but it works and is simple. and easy to fix if it brakes.

mine just broke...I've only had it a couple months, but got about 2500 miles out of it. Maybe it has to do with the road chemicals or luck.
I guess I'll just have to track down and extra o ring/rubber band. I was not lucky enough to get a 2nd in my kit.

Eek... this is the first I've heard of this problem. Getting Rizoma rearsets on my 1100s in the next few weeks. Keep us informed about what you wind up doing/finding.

I got the S*R sets, so thats why they were less expensive than the 1100/696 version (which use springs). Thinking back though, I may have paid $550 b/c I remeber thinking I'd rather have the S*R rearsrets and some new mirrors over just the newer 1100 rearsets...hmmm
In that pic above, there is clearly a spring in the S*R sets though, maybe they changed it? That leads me to believe I can use a spring though... need to investigate.
The o-ring method just seems like trouble in the long run.

I have the Rizomas on my S2R1K, and actually lost the rubber band, but I went to a local hardware store and bought a spring that works perfectly and only set me back a few bucks. If I find the bag the spring came in, I'll post the size that fits.

we've gone through this before. the rubber band, or spring, doesn't "DO" anything - my AG Hammer rearsets came with neither. I have Rizoma's right now, they have one, but if you look at the rear master's "plunger" design... the rubber band doesn't/can't "do" anything. It only keeps the pedal close to your toe. If you are jamming on the rear a lot, you are more likely to bust that rubber band, but it doesn't "do" anything as far as the brake goes. Just keeps the lever by your toe.

this is easy, just go to home depot and ask for a metal spring.
you have to measure the end size of the ring that hooks on to the thing on your rearsets
mine was really loose and I bought the spring.. it's worked like a dream since.
