Cleaning buttons?

My rotors don't act as if they're straight. There's a very light warped feeling upon light low speed braking.

I have scuffed with brake cleaner without any change.

Today a shop told me they often clean around the buttons by rotating them with a rubber drill bit while spraying brake cleaner in there. Can this method be used with stock semi floating rotors? Have you done it and can share your experience?

If this works, but the rotors are still warped - what rotors and pads do you suggest for 4 piston 2 pads. I like the look of BrakeTech 8)

You could make them floaters. [evil]

I like Dunlop Pads (DP)

I just put 2 jackets into the box to see how much space i got for you... got some room.  ;)...if you throw a set of rotors in there though...im not sure how believable $30 bucks is LOL

I can do it for $0 ;)

I know you're cheap, but what are you willing to do for $0 :o

I did the floating button mod on a pair of oem disks one time.  They worked OK but when slowing down below 5 mph they would start making this horrible squalling screeching sound - like nearly every time I had to stop for a light.  New pads didn't help - I don't know if there is a right way to do it but I know there is a wrong way.

I just spray and force them back and forth, the rubber drill bit sounds like a great idea to speed things up.

Can't go wrong with the Brake Techs.

Before floating, I would spin the front wheel by hand on a stand and the wheel would slow down right away and the brake was mostly an on/off proposition, no matter how carefully I tried to modulate the lever.

Spinning the wheel by hand after floating I was struck by how much floating the rotors reduced the drag of the front wheel, and how I could modulate the brake.   Except for the noise, a good mod for my bike.

I did the cleaning, but I haven't tested if it was successful and if this was the issue yet.

A screw driver bit, slightly larger than the button hole, rags and quite a lot of brake cleaner spray.
I covered the wheel, behind the rotors, with rags - slightly forced the drill half way in the button holes and spun them while spraying. I was surprised how easy they spun.

If not successful, the next step is new pads (my current ones had some bad corrosion/rust on their back sides).

I've heard about the noise from floaters - is that the case for ALL full floating rotors, even brand new OEM and the BrakeTechs? Not sure if it would be an issue though, they could serve as my odd Ducatinoise (having no dry clutch)  8)

I think so, physically it makes sense. The buttons have to be loose enough to spin, and with the space makes the top part rattle. Mine move and it's annoying sometimes. But i've decided that I'm just not gonna ride slow enough to hear it  :P
