Looks like the History Channel is picking up where NBC left off.   [thumbsup]

I love love love the BBC show, and I hope the History Channel can do it justice.  However, having a host with NASCAR ties makes it suspect...    :-\

Interesting idea, but sounds awful. The best part about Top Gear, is their dry British humor. I'll give it a shot, but I don't expect anything.  Maybe they could do something cool, like put Tanner in an F1 car, but in a NASCAR would be far less interesting.

I was watching some Top Gear from the first couple of years, and it's amazing how well shot and edited the later versions were.  I sure hope that it's as polished as the BBC version.

BTW, I sure thought Jay Leno was starting to go the Top Gear route by having celebrities driving a "car" around his "track". Glad it didn't work out, since I'm with Coco.

Yeah... I have my hopes... but I'm expecting they will cock it up, to use the British for it...

Is Adam Ferrara a car guy?  That's one thing Leno would bring to the show.  He's much cooler when talking cars than when he tries to be scripted-funny on late night.

I see this crashing and burning.  I'll give it a try, but I'll still be watching the real Top Gear.

Do they still have to make fun of Americans and anything that is badged by Detroit?   [laugh]

The current UK version of Top Gear is lighting in a bottle and has been making me smile since I started watching it in 2004. I don't think Hollywood will do it any more justice on their 2d go around with it than they did on the 1st go around.

I've always likened Clarkson to be the Rush Limbaugh of automotive journalism, and he makes the show.  I just can't imagine any US network putting someone like him or his opinions on the air.  Rutledge will probably just act like a goofball without Clarkson's edge.

I still hold hope though since the US version of The Office was a spin off of the UK show, and it's pretty damn funny.

9 out of 10 British TV remakes are crap, so the odds are good they'll screw this up as well.

NBC would really have screwed it up and History channel probably won't have the budget to do it justice.

That said, I do hope it's good because I can't get enough of Top Gear.

I'm a fan of the History channel, and I have high hopes for the Top Gear endeavor.  Hopefully, they'll have some decent budget $$ available - after all, History channel is owned by a three entities with deep pockets:  Disney, Hearst, and NBC.

Keeping my fingers crossed

Top Gear Australia failed dismally. I'm sure this will follow suit.

Not TopGear per se - but Austrailian and I learned about it from TopGear

Haven't seen it yet, but it's on my short list. Anyone watch it yet?

Hmm... I wonder if TopGear AM will have the fat stig back...

Top Gear is amazing! I dont know how you make a better show than that.
Bikes I've jumped and/or crashed:
84 Kawasaki KDX 80 - Bike i learned to ride on when I was young(er)
84 Kawasaki KDX 200 - First naked bike. crashed so frequently the plastics wouldnt stay on.
99 KTM 620 - If you could even get the thing kick started in the first place...
02 Yamaha Zuma - not a motorcycle but still crashed and jumped it way too many times.
04 Harley Road King Classic - Awesome story behind this
06 Ducati S2R 1000 - neither.... yet.

I think I'd prefer an full length, non-edited British airing to some "homegrown" version.
