hmmmm....you got my eyes wide open there  ;D can that actually be done??? how !!!???? coz my gas tank is measely. it says 15L plus reserve but everytime i run it until it's almost dry and top up it's only about 13L.
brilliant if it can actually be done.

thanks.

I could be wrong, but I think gOoIe B is talking about the defect with the Plastic tank and many people have been dealing with this issue as of late.

so...stupid question time, but i've never done this and am wondering if you only *need* to buy this and you're done?:  http://www.tpoparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=31  TPO doesn't say anything about needing anything besides this filter....

or do you also need to pick up this nichols setup as well?:  http://www.ducationly.com.au/nichols.html

You could just install the Breather Filter kit and ditch the hoses on the vent tank.  The kit filter connects to the OEM Breather Valve and provides plugs to plug the hole in the air filter box.

You can get an aftermarket breather valve but it is not required unlesss your current one is leaking or you just want the bling.

You can leave the rectifier connected to the vent tank which will serve no other purpose except as a mounting point for the rectifier.  You can also purchase the TPO Rectifier Relocation Kit or make your own to ditch the vent tank which like I said will serve no other purpose once you have installed the breather valve filter kit.

cool... ordered the filter but passed on the bracket.  i think i'll still ditch the breather box, but just drill a couple holes in the plastic tray under the seat, and mount the VR underneath the tray, on the tire side.

I put the k&n on my bike and oil comes out pretty good at highway speeds, around town though its fine. I'm going to try Stuart's idea of the extension tube and see how that works for me.

An extesion tube is a good idea.  There were some nice pics on TOB of someone who had nestled it nicely into the crook of the frame with the chrome cap facing out.  Also, don't fill your oil all the way to the top mark when cold, try the lower mark.  Keeping it a little lower helped Infidel with the same problem.

i wonder if the vent tank can be replaced by something else.  That is, maintain the functionality of the breather/tank, but something a little more custom looking.  I've been digging around online for a replacement tank that could bolt to the frame, but not had much luck.  not even with anything that could be lightly modified to work.

any ideas?

It's basically a combination baffle and expansion chamber.  You could probably use anything that would prevent oil blown up the pipe from going into the air cleaner.  Maybe cobble together something from a Budweiser shorty can  [laugh]  Or maybe Peroni.  Do they make shorties?

I'd like to do something like this myself to keep the vent going to the air cleaner but still get better cooling to the voltage regulator, maybe move the second coil so I could take off the side panels.  Not really high on the list of projects and things I need to get done though.

i mounted mine earlier today... filter fit nicely.  my only question now is to verify that the regulator doesn't need to actually be grounded or bolted on the frame, right?  i wanted to just flip it on the underside of the lower plastic fender/tray...just drill a couple holes in it and mount it there.  a friend told me though that earlier bikes with single phase needed the actual metal of the regulator to be grounded.  i don't want to burn up the voltage regulator.

The case doesn't need to be grounded - the green wires are ground.  I ran mine disconnected from the bike while I was stuffing about, with no ill effects.

cool, didn't know you could run it without that connected...never tried before.

installed mine a couple weeks back... pretty straightforward.  i ended up just flipping my VR underneath the plastic seat fender:
