Has anyone else been having a bit of a look at the 796  [moto] looks pretty good to me but will stay with the 696 (at least for now).  I was wondering if anyone has heard when it is due to be released here!  Liking some of the new plastics too.  I personally would like to see an 848 streetfighter come out - not that i spend much time thinking about bikes  laughingdp just want to get hubby off the daytona (not that there is anything wrong with the 675) but it is not a twin bang head.

Happy day

They built a 796 Monster?Huh??  I should get out more.

Is it really needed? I guess the Ducati marketing boffins think so but it doesn't seem much of a jump from the 696

I agree on the 848 streetfighter though.

I would think that if it was going to happen it would have by now. There is obvious appeal from a consumer's point of view ... but the trick is where does it fit in the price scale. Rarely (I guess) Ducatis are competing with their competitors when price is concerned which means that their closest price competitors are ... other Ducatis.

I don't know how much new Ducatis cost but you would expect an 848 SF priced below the 848 which is probably close to M1100 territory ... what would that do to M1100 sales!

As for the 796 ... does this spell the end of the 696? If they intend to keep both why not put adjustable suspension on the 796?

Found this thread - General Monster Forum (Moderators: ducpainter, bigiain, Speeddog) > Damned 796 vs 696 - sorry not sure how to post the links and it has a bit more info but went to ducati.com and had a good look there.  Does not sound like they will be getting rid of the 696 but i still hope that they do bring out the 848 streetfighter and reading the other thread I am not aloe Cheesy

Link here for you. http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=37419.0

Couldn't see an 848 SF being made, I think they are struggling enough to sell the current one.
I wouldn't think the 796 spells the end of the 696 Ducati has always had 3 models in the Monster line up.

Could be just the tonic then. But I think it is a problem they will always have ... a need for a more diverse range but struggling to differentiate them on price and/or specification.

I wouldn't think the 796 spells the end of the 696 Ducati has always had 3 models in the Monster line up.

But it comes down to how different they are and what the perception is.

1000 > 800 > 600 is logical
or even ... Fridge > 1000 > 800 > 600

1100 > 796 > 696 maybe not so logical

A cynic may suggest they are trying to prop up the lower end of the market ... and/or admitting the M1100 is too expensive.

it has to cannibalise the 696....who isn't going to spend the money on SSS and suspension, the first one looks the business, the second one is the business. also solves the small problem of sitting on the thing that every bloke on the planet has mentioned. reckon it could be the perfect 'city' bike though. or maybe they think they have perfect womens/mens bike the: 696 for the women and the blokes need to make sure their bike is bigger, they get the 796 with genital cupping (as opposed to smashing). easy! Ducati his and hers.

(no offence was meant in the above post to any bloke who rides a 6 series, love em and respect those who ride em well)

It comes down to how you ride it.
