Advanced Carbon Composites problems

NYT just reported that Advanced Carbon Composites's helmets that are made in China and India are not safe. If you have their helmet, you should read this recall article:
http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/28/motorcycle-helmet-maker-forced-to-end-production/

Um...their helmets were made in the US and they advertised to not trust other makers' helmets made overseas.

From the times
"On its Web site, the motorcycle helmet manufacturer Advanced Carbon Composites warns buyers not to trust helmets made in China or India and instead to buy its American-made models.
But the company’s helmets have been recalled so many times by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, that the agency has demanded that the company never make another motorcycle helmet.
"

this is why i stick with the big names when my butt (or head) is on the line... Shoei's ruthless japanese efficiency is keeping my cranium safe.

Wait till they become another Toyota!
Test have shown, you dont need name brand to protect your nogging. Those upper range helmets generally just weigh less, and have more exotic materials to either a) again weigh less, or b) be more comfortable inside the helmet (softer fabrics) or c) quieter d) flow more air.
Scoprion EXO helmets rated just as high as Shoeis or Arais in Sharps independent testing.

100% agree.
I'm a big scorpion supporter. Love my EXO-400. Only reasons i got the Shoei RF-1000 were 1.) lighter 2.) less noise... and 3.)RF-1000's went on SUPER sale at Cycle Gear and i had $200 in gift cards

Study also shown that high priced and exclusive items are often associated (perceived) with quality and prestige. Consumers feel better purchasing and using these items. I guess we are all in the same boat here... Ducati and Dainese products do the same job as a Kawasaki or Icon with differences in material, design, etc. But you feel damn good about it when you wear a Dainese jacket, sitting on your Ducati.

It is hard to beat Scorpion helmets. I actually prefer both of them (400 & 700) over my Shoei. They fit my head better. As far as which one protects my noggin better, I don't plan on finding out.

The difference between helmets and gear (i.e. pants and jackets) is that helmets go thru a standardized test process to ensure they're all adeqate...so price does not equate to more protection.
Gear does not (the padding sometimes does, but not the gear). There are subtle, but very important, differences in things like stitching that usually makes the premier brands (like Dainese, Vanson, Held, Aerostitch, etc) superior to lower cost alternatives.
