I have done some engine upgrades on mine back at 20K ( pistons changed to ferracci kit mainly and power commander etc).  Had penske adjustable suspension put in and lowered front sprocket.... etc....  I don't regret getting the DP slip onearly on.  Other than that, you will outgrow this bike so fast that it is not worth making the same mistakes I did with major upgrades.

Honestly, not worth it at all.   The HP gain was only a few  (the dyno chart proved that).  I mean it performed well and tiny bit better but just not worth it at all.

You will outgrow it.

(Since I can't sell mine for any worthwhile $$, I am going to ride the crap out of it.  I am considering total engine upgrade from wreck bike to a higher cc if I can manage the $$ )  :-)

As for the lights, I did just add yesterday the HID kit  (Got it for $40 and am very happy with it.  The stock lights suck so bad but then my lights needed to be cleaned )

(get rid of the reflectors on the fork)   ;)

I recently had an aluminum flywheel put in and I am happy with that mod, I almost think it had more of an effect than my 14t front sprocket. As far as the 620 mods go, I've gone about as far with mine as I need to, I'm not an aggressive rider and for me it makes enough power. I'd love to get a Sport Classic for my next bike but I'm so attached to my current build that I have no plans to get rid of it.

Check into this  http://www.ferracci.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=197
Look in ebay first.  I got the pistons only and the rest from ebay.

Again, my advice, as attached as I am to this bike, not worth doing it.

But enjoy !   :)

the best money spent would be on suspension.  Either getting the springs/oil sorted out, or finding some adjustable forks (and then getting the springs oil sorted out).

oh, and tires.  wearing out tires is also very good for making you a better rider.

IMHO, even the suspension upgrade was just not worth putting money into this HP bike.  I say that from experience having done (suspension upgrade, engine etc).

Ever since I start riding my Triumph S3, I tell you i just see how WAY underpowered the 620 is.  Ofcourse I know they are totally different classes of bikes.  I am surprised I got 0 chicken strips on the S3 but got a bit on the 620.  I find the S3 is so easy to lean than the DM620 believe it or not.

Anyhow, 620 is still cool to take out on the twisty, so it's a fun bike still.  On Str8, everyone will smoke you with no doubt.  Oh well, the fun part is the curves and that's when you see all sorts of brake lights from the others   ;D

that happened to me today on a group ride and I don't consider myself 'fast' at all.  they'd hit the straight and hammer on the gas.  I'd catch them in the turns.  It was an odd feeling.

But yeah, is suspension upgrades worth it?  It's worth it to make the bike work right.  It's debatable if all the shiny bits and new slipons do anything at all.

The way I see it, my 695 is that much less likely to blow my licence than a 900+cc bike.  By upgrading the suspension (and later brakes) on my 695 to the same standard as that on the bigger bikes, I maximise the enjoyment and safety, without increasing the risk of blowing my licence.

Ask yourself this question:

What is more important?  How fast can it go or how fast can it be ridden?  This is where suspension comes in.

Can the piston kit really be that bad? Its supposed to be 1hp short of an 800 and have 4 ftlbs of torque over the 800.The thing I see as an advantage is that you now have a freely rebuilt motor. A 900 swap get you more powerm but its still is going to have X number of miles on it, because its used. I'm thinking about doing something this winter, so this is an interested thread for me.

+1. I upgraded suspension (s2r 1000 forks) and did the 14T sprocket mod. Along with DP ECU and the open airbox, I'm pretty frikkin' delighted with my M695. Every time I get big bike envy, I remind myself that the 695 is still faster than the overwhelming majority of vehicles out there. Then I get happy again.

Would i have the same effect with my 620 opening the airbox?  What kind of suspension would you guys reccommend for a 620?  I have owned mine for a couple of yrs and I am really looking into modding the heck out of it.  Thanks for the help.
