I've got some pretty bad sinuses and I take a few allergy medications, among them is the nasal spray Nasonex.  This spray has a tendency to really dry out my sinuses and I get bloody noses with some frequency.  As I was riding the other day I thought, "oh shit, what happens if my nose starts bleeding in my helmet while I'm riding?"  I'd just pull over and try to minimize the mess ASAP but I was curious if this had ever happened to anyone and if so what did you do?

No FHE here, but Micheal Moore almost threw up in his helmet once.  I remember him telling the story about how he managed to pull over and rip off his helmet right before he started spewing  vomit

Holy crap!!!  I didn't even think of that.  Damn, now I know what I'm gonna be thinking about the next time I ride.

Reminds me of when I got my jaw wired shut.  I asked the doctor what if the anesthesia makes me nauseous and when I wake up I need to puke?  He said, "well one of two things can happen.  You can swallow it down or try to force it out through your teeth."  So disgusting.  Thankfully I didn't feel sick so didn't have to try either method.

I used to have terrible year-round allergies and sinuses, and I started getting allergy shots a few years ago.  They are a pain in the beginning cause you have to get them frequently at first, and you have to wait around afterwards.

However, they totally made a huge difference in my quality of life, it was absolutely worth it for me. waytogo

No but I have sneezed in my helmet several times.

That was so nasty. I cant really open my helmet shield at freeway speeds. It would just shoot back in my face anyways.

Worse thing that has happened which was really scary is that My eye started to water and sting on the freeway. Before I new it
the other eye did the same thing and with in 30 seconds I could not see anything and tears were running down my face.

I basically pulled off the freeway mostly blind. This has happened to me twice now  Undecided

I had a bloody nose once while riding, I pulled over on the freeway shoulder, took off my helmet, and used a nasty gunge civered rag from my tank bag to wipe off the blood. Tongue

I also threw up through my regulator once while diving, that was interesting. Shocked

Just last week I came down with a really bad sinus cold while I was on a trip.  I had to ride over 100 miles with my nose pouring snot like a faucet on full blast.  I want a new helmet now.

No but when I was playing chauffeur to the race officials during the Wildflower triathalon a few weeks ago we passed this one bicyclist with a runny nose. I swear you could see the goobers flailing in the wind from his nose all the way to his ears.  vomit

You didnt happen to be wearing sunscreen on your face did you?  That stuff can fume up and act as tear gas once the inside of your helmet starts heating up.

Driving past the cow manure fields, i often get the urge to spit out the nasty taste I get in my mouth... then i realize, i'd just be spitting on the faceshield.
