motodynamic Sequential LED help
«

Hey guys,
I installed my new Sequential LED tail light from motodynamics. Pretty straight forward install. The brake light works fine, the turn signals only work if the bike is actually running. The problem is. I started the bike and checked to make sure the brake and the turn signals worked..both did so I took her out for a spin. Came back about 30min later and when I checked the rear brake lights it was not working correctly. You could see the light was on but when I would turn the signals on the whole light would just pulse with the turn signals in the front. "Signals in the front a not LED. just standard." You could not see the turn signal at all....the brake light still worked with the three pulses and then the solid brake light.....I am a bit stumped. What should i be looking for any ideas?

Not sure what bike you have, but i did have a problem with my s2r 1000 running the motodynamics light. First off you may want to check your fuse, the instructions they gave me had me wire the wrong color wire to one another and i think that blew the fuse. Tried different set up regarding the wiring and sure enough that was the case. I don't remember which wire it was, its been a awhile since i installed the light.

it came with isntruction manuals?
maybe the flashing device is broken. or disconnected or loose. it just blinks like a normal light, not sequentially?

Did you have to do any wiring, or did it have a connector that you just plug into your wiring harness?
Sounds like loose wires, or it is possible that the flasher was defective and broke. Check connections if nothing seems loose, I'd give MD a call/email and see what they say.
I have the older generation without the extra brake flash, and had to wire it myself. But no problems so far (only like 50 miles though)
Edit: also, did your turn signals only work when the engine is running before the install? My 2001 works with the engine off.

Yes it did come with the instruction sheet. I have been over the instructions probably 10 times. They are very to the point and simple. There really is no was you can screw it up.
When I first started the bike the lights worked sequentially. After I got back from my short ride they did not work any longer. The brake light worked as it should, but there were no turn signals.

Yes it did come with the harness then I just plug and play my connections into there harness...pretty straight forward stuff.
No the only thing that would work with the bike off is the brake light.....the front turn signals work when the bike is off but not the rears.
As far as a loose wire is concerned I want to say no....just because I have been over it with a fine tooth comb....I think I will give motodynamic a shout..

Yeah contact them, if you bought it new, I would guess they would replace it. It sounds like a faulty assembly. Also one more question, does your front signals flash at normal rates or extra fast now that the rears aren't working?

Yeah its brand new. Bought it at the end of April and only but 50 miles on the bike so far this season....waiting on parts from the mother ship. As far as the signals in front. They flash like normal...not like when there is a bulb out.

Here is what I got from MotoDynamic...
"Let's try some troubleshooting and narrow down the problem. You said when the turns signals are on, they stop working after some time and take out the brake lights with it. Temporarily disconnect the turn signals by removing the subharness, then run the signals and see if the same thing happens. Hit the brakes whiles the turn signals are on just to make sure the brakes don't go out. Please report back your findings.
I am guessing the subharness may be at fault here. If so we may need to replace that for you."
Pretty quick response as well...Have yet to try this will test it out today.

I'm also installing a Motodynamics brake light. I have one question for all reading :
What the hell do you do with the license plate light?
The brakelight has what appears to be an integrated light to illuminate the plate ( either was I don't care)... I dont need the factory one

So do you just cut the wires and seal 'em off?

Yup... Just checked as i bottoned up the ol' tail chop and new light... NO license plate light.
