If one were to clear over the dark bodywork for the 696, would it turn out glossy, like the gloss black bodywork?  I basically would like gloss black body work without the decals.  As I understand, the gloss tank panels have the decals cleared over, whereas the matt black bodywork does not.  So I was wondering if I procurred "dark" body work, removed the decals, and cleared over, if it would end up gloss black.  My guess is no.  I currently have pearl white and am thinking of switching over, but maybe I'd be better off repainting what I have.

The answer to your question is no. It would be a dark grey metallic.

There are some process issues as well that would make it not work well even if you liked the color.

Paint what you have if you want gloss black.

this is kinda question for me too, cause the 80's silver tank skins are a semi-flat metallic silver with no clearcoat.

is it worth looking into a clear for it?

if you wanted to gloss clear over it it wouldn't turn out good because the dark is an eggshell?
