fuel tank quick disconnect options?

I have been trying to find options for fuel tank quick disconnect (or if not quick, at least not
fuel-spilling all over the place) But im having problems

Ive called every auto store in town for fuel petcocks and they say they dont have anything that will work!?!?
I checked summit and this is the closest looking thing.

which would be great if it fit at all. unfortunately
it looks like it would take at least one more fitting and some grinding to cut it down to size and i have a feeling
theres not enough material to get it down to

what i believe is 1/4 inch fuel line? (ducati told me monsters use 1/4" and 3/16")

anyone have any ideas to make it easier to remove the gas tank without draining it of fuel, for
modififying and cleaning the bike?

You can get quick disconnects from Motion Pro:

Just my 2-cents:

Suck it up and buy the metal connectors, as pictured here:

They are a s*%t load more expencive... but worth the peace of mind.

Triumph recalled all those plastic connectors after a few broke/bikes burned up.  Mine was leaking (just weaping slightly) when I underwent the recall.

I've also broken the plastic-style on my Husqvarna TE250.

The link above selld the male and female separately.  $25 each sounds really-really expensive.  I seem to remember paying about $3035 for the pair from my local fastenal after determining the correct size.

Just a thought.

ug and i already placed the order.

100 bucks is quite a price for a pair of those but i suppose youre right,
suck it up and dont let your bike burn to the ground  [bang]


edit: ok cancelled my order for the plastics.
Searching fastenal site, if you have any suggestions on searching please let me know.
having a hard time finding what i need *searching quick connects yields gas torch line stuff

that site you linked ended up $103 for what i need for the 2 fuel lines, yikes!!!

You'll find part numbers for metal quick disconnects with shut-off valves.

wow i did not expect to get many responses but this thread just gets better and better.

Omega is getting me 2 sets of these plus shipping
for a total of 22 bucks. (beats the hell out of $103)

   FT-LC220-04 is the P/N i ordered, 1/4" ID with hose barb, so hopefully this does the trick. if its not the correct part i will post up once i get them.

In one of those threads, I posted the part numbers.

Here they are (metal with shut-off valves on both halves):
FT-LCD170-05: $24 (5/16" ID hose barb, In-line, 2.00" Length, Shutoff, Coupling body 1/4" flow);
FT-LCD220-05: $15 (5/16" ID, Hose barb, Straights, 1.85" LCD Length, Shutoff, Insert 1/4" flow).

BTW, a good tip from Spidey (or maybe it was Speeddog):  orient the feed and return disconnects in opposite directions.  That way, you'll never mix them up.

so in reading your post it looks like i need 2x EACH of those part numbers you listed right?
i put an email in to omega requesting they adjust my order accordingly. well see what they say.

Sometimes when I do a search, it comes up empty, but if I re-type the exact phrase into the search function, viola!

Just as a reliability datapoint on the plastic units...

I've had mine on for ~6 year.
~1 year semi-exposed on the right side, last 5 years hidden under the left rear of the tank.

YMMV.

That was from Spidey.
As long as you've got shut-offs on both fittings, you're good to go that way.
Mine only had shutoffs on the female fitting, so those went on the lines to the tank.
I cut the lines in different areas, so it was nearly impossible to install incorrectly.

+1 on the metal version.  The plastic and metal version are made by the same company, but the metal ones will last.  The plastic ones come OEM on several BMW's, and they eventually crack.

placed the order from omega, came out to $86, more than i wanted to spend,

Oh, man!  That is a good tip!!!  Thanks, wherever it came from.

Oh... and it slipped my mind that the Monster has one fuel line running to each injector.  Basiclly doubles the already expensive price I had in my head when posting (ouch!).

And thatnks for the Omega links.  I might actually do this to my Monster sooner than I imagined.
