hey fellas, what are your thoughts on these two

1) since valve work was done, assuming that shop provided me with all documentation and work was done right, would this have an affect on the resale value in general?

nope. shit happens, and if the bikes been serviced back to original condition. it will be fine.

2) what do you think is would be a reasonable compensation for inconvenience since i originally took my bike in for 15k service, f&r brake pads and was quoted 6.5 hours for labor (i provided the parts) and promised to be done in 3 days (now going into a week)?

Honestly, this is coming from me only, but i dont expect you to get any type of compensation unless you actively ask. Maybe theres a jacket you wanted, and you want to see if they are willing to throw a bit ff the MSRP, but really, dont expect anything.

+1, I wouldn't expect to get anything, just as you wouldn't pay extra if your bike was ready sooner than promised.
Shite happens.

Maybe a free Oil Change or other 'courtesy' service?

Key is to come out with your bike whole.

Absorbing  a little bad luck is a part of life. If the bike doesn't come back for a couple weeks, I'd be expecting some money off the service.

I figured the same,  but definitely going to push for something if it goes for more than a couple of weeks.

in any case, it feels weird not having a bike especially with the great weather we've been having lately.  but life goes on.  chug

ask for 15 to 20% off the total bill and see if they bite on that.   its worth a try.

Monster S2R 800 - ALL BLACK

« Reply #22 on: June 03, 2010, 12:38:37 PM »

So basically it sounds like they put the belts on out of time and drove the valves into the pistons? And youre still going to pay them for the service? Plus now they have your bike for even longer. Thats ridiculous. You should not be charged anything.

This is exactly why I do all the work on the bike myself (with help from everyone in this forum). Why pay someone to F*** up your bike when you can f*** up your own bike for free?

I agree.  Im getting impatient. "suppose" to be ready and  fixed right by monday.  Ive been calm and collective for the past 2 1/2 weeks.  this is not going to be the case if i get the phonecall informing me otherwise.

by the way, when the head was pulled did you check the damage yourself to be certain they are fixing everything?

i mean a look at the piston crowns would be a good idea.

maybe have another shop take a peak with scope.

No i didnt get a chance to.  but will definitely make sure all the work is warrantied.

update:   they are still waiting to get the right head gaskets from a duc dealership who kept sending the wrong ones three times bang head. (im thinking shouldn't this guy have ordered them in the beginning when they screwed up my bike  applause ])   he advised me that he didnt want to use the old gaskets.   im hoping these guys redeem themselves.  since reviews can spread quickly in the online community which can definitely have an impact on future business.

So bike is up and running and back on the road after a long hiatus.   Heres the work summary.

oil change , f&r brake pads (i provided oil and filter as well as f&r pads.  i know i could have done this myself but i figure just get it done.
valve adj and replace timing belts( i provided the belts and valve cover gaskets) -
serviced and replaced rear head valve. (done by DucPond Motorsports in VA)
install rear head with new seals and torque to ducati factory specs
6 month warranty.

originally advised 6.5 hours labor at $79.00/hour.  After all set and done. labor was reduced to $60/hour for 6.5 hours, new battery- no charge, plus cost of 2 spark plugs, brake fluid plus tax - $444.12.  discount given seemed fair.
