i took my bike in for service to a reputable shop (belts, valve adjustment) a couple days ago and planning to pick it up today and have it ready for a road trip this weekend.  not happening  :(  i was advised that they ran into a problem with the belts installation which basically left the bike with bent valves.  [bang]  they have to order the parts so not really sure when its gna be up and running.  of course repairs will be covered but plans got messed up. suppose to ride up to Bear Mountain  [coffee]

That sucks. A loaner isn't an unreasonable request given that they screwed up on a routine maintenance item.

Sounds like they didn't crank the engine over by hand after replacing your belts, and they were off a tooth or more on the pulleys. Rookie mistake not turning the engine over by hand to make sure all is clear. Mistakes happen though.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I asked regarding a loaner/rental and they do not have any since they are primarily a repair shop. Your right,  the tech mentioned he was off a tooth or two.  But I understand mistake do happen and I'm sure they'll get everything corrected and maybe get some compensation for the inconvenience.  hopefully sooner than later since i've heard ordering parts from ducati can be quite an experience.

My brother in-law gets a free loaner every time he goes to Ducati for an oil change.  He is in Maryland mind you.  I am in NYC.  I get n oloaner for anything.  But, it never hurts to ask.  Especially since it was there mistake that put you out!

definitely request a loaner bike, if it were me and it messed with my riding plans I'd talk to an attorney

No, its not.  I'd rather not post up the shop's name for now and give them a chance to make everything right.

i'd definitely post any developments and the outcome of this whole ordeal.

A percentage of the time with bent valves, you get valve guide problems. (do a search)

Just make sure the dealership will fix/repair the valve guides (if needed in the future) as relating to the bent valves.  Have them note on the bill / paperwork and signed by service manager for future reference when you pickup the bike.

Probably of no concern as the problem was caught immediately and not ridden for miles down the road (more common than you'd imagine) -- but something you should be aware of.

A good shop will have checked the valve guides and not just swapped bent valves and called it a day.  They won't want a customer screaming bloody murder a few months down the road.  Everyone/dealerships make mistakes -- the good ones correct the problem and the customer ends up happy.

Bravo for that.  Unfortunately, independent shops usually cannot afford insurance to supply loaners.  Does this shop specialize in Ducatis?

hey fellas, what are your thoughts on these two

1) since valve work was done, assuming that shop provided me with all documentation and work was done right, would this have an affect on the resale value in general?

2) what do you think is would be a reasonable compensation for inconvenience since i originally took my bike in for 15k service, f&r brake pads and was quoted 6.5 hours for labor (i provided the parts) and promised to be done in 3 days (now going into a week)?
