I test rode one last fall, a blue CB125 for $750.  Cool little bike.  It would be great as a city bike.  But it could barely get up to 55-60 miles per hour.   Plus it's probably too light to be a stable highway commuter.

That'd be an awesome around town putter. Better than a scooter IMO.

One thing im afraid of is how much you need to change the oil. Ive been reading reviews and it says 750mile oil changes are mandatory and the motor is dead by 40,000. I think i would still get my moneys worth. The only issue is , these bikes are all 300+ miles away and at 65mph top speed...thats a lot of hours of getting home! lol

I'd thinking you'de be better off ( though it'd be more expensive ) with a Sach's Madass with a 125 motor ( which is a Honda motor on everyone I have seen)

That's ridiculous!  I wonder if the 750 miles oil change is mandatory for CB200 or CB350/360.

+1.  It's much better than the Ninja250.  I saw one CBR250 for sale in Vancouver BC and was considering it.  But it would be too much of a PITA to bring it over to US.  Sigh...

How illegal is it if i took the VIN plates off a ninja 250 and slapped it on the frame of the cbr? lol

There are a few CBR250s out there. ive seen them. not very common though.

Since the thread topic is fuel efficient commuter bike, I will throw a few out there as I've toying with the idea lately. The Suzuki TU250 is one great looking retro bike.  Great fuel efficiency with fuel injection (only bike in the segment that I am aware of).  Honda 230M might be a good city bike, too.  But not sure about freeway...

Suzuki GS500F would be a geat highway commuter, IMO.  I've seen a few for around $2500 in the Seattle area.  I doubt the Wife would approve this though...

Scrap the Scranton one. No title = No sale. Even if it were 50 bucks, it is stolen no matter the story behind it. Make the seller to the leg work.

As for commuter bike, ya, they aren't for the freeway. Around town though, they are stupid fun. My buddy has one he uses to get back and forth from school so he doesn't have to stuff his Triumph in amongst the scooters. Very comfortable and stable with a back pack on. If you can find a guy with a truck, it would be worth the 12 pack and pizza to go get it.

I have one. Looks just like the picture, but in mint condition. Brakes are horrible. Dual drums are no good. It's fun though. Wife likes the passenger seat on this much more than the 1098 SBK LOLZ  [moto]
