Okay... granted... but is it a direct relationship between price tag and awesomeness? Or inverse? If it's inversely related... then I have some really badass watches...

A few years ago my gf got me a pocketwatch that she got engraved for valentine's day.  The watch wasn't expensive or even very fancy but I loved it.

All joking aside, what is it exactly you want?  Automatics, and wound watches keep time less accurately than a quartz, but are more of a timepiece/ man jewelry.  Most of the time a 15 dollar timex keeps more accurate time. 
Selecting a watch is all down to personal taste and use. 

As a gift, in my opinion, I would rather have my woman take me shopping for a watch, its a bit of a win,win. She gets to take me out and do something special, I get a watch that is perfectly suited to my taste.  While watches are considered one size fit all, I find that there are a lot of nice "timepieces" that don't fit me right, or I like a style in a magazine or case, but not on my wrist.

So if you want to get your man a nice watch, take him to a nice place to eat, and then let him know that his real gift is a nice watch that you're taking him to pick out, so he get exactly what he wants, (as long as it falls into your budget)... he should love it.

I have a 80 dollar Pulsar that I like as much (if not more) than my 500 dollar Seiko. Its all about your personally and whats important to you.  I wouldn't take a rolex over most seikos, unless it was an antique, but I tried a patrick philip on that I loved (but couldn't afford)

If you like an inexpensive watch because of its look or fit, rock it...

But... I'm an indecisive sonofapregnant dog who likes to shop shop shop until i have seen every freakin option two or three times. That really kills the mood.

What do you like about the Movado? Is it the slimness, the less-is-more styling, etc.?
Then figure out where you are going to wear it. Dress, casual, work, etc.
Figure that out, and you're halfway there.

I have a number of nice watches, from a Tag dress model, to a Skagen that I wear to work. One thing I look for is a leather or rubber band. I find that almost all of the woven metal bands pull the hairs on my wrist.

Me too.  Of course my arms make me look like I could be sasquatch but that's another story.

I really, really want the ceramic Player by Nixon.  It's all white, with a white face with a small ruby in the face.  It's also $1300 which is why I don't have it.

Yeah sorry...it's going to be utterly inconsistent.

Unlike the last few posts, I prefer a metal band, I like the way it feels on my wrist, the weight, and I feel it's sturdier.

I'm picky about the jewels, shape of the face...etc etc....I wouldn't try to surprise him with a wrist watch.



Now an engraved pocket watch may be a different matter. Something special occasion only...

Its all down to personal taste. I like the bigger face and the thicker body so you can feel the weight on your hand. So it can look and feel expensive.
