Enduro mode is a bit of a stretch, and I think everyone recognizes that.

However, I took my MTS1000 on fire roads and decent double track quite a bit, and it did fine. I would have no problem doing the same with either the MTS1200 or the SMT. I wouldn't do anything more though. I don't suspect either would crash all that well...although my SMT does have crash bars (mainly for the radiator) and a folding shift lever...and both have skid plates.

I will say that my MTS1000 was easier to ride off road then my 1200GS was. The GS was a handful due to its weight.

The GS1200 is not exactly light.

It's not, but I don't think I'll have $2500 in tupperware and turn signals to replace the first time I drop it.  And dropping a GS can only improve its appearance.

I want to see how well it crashes before I give it any credit as an enduro. Anything you can't just pick up and keep riding is not suitable for offroad.

Out of curiosity.............where does the KLR650 we just acquired fit in here?

more in line with the KTM Adventurer and GS crowd?

Not even in the same class IMO.
