Hey I'm new to this whole motorcycle thing but so far I'm loving it! I just bought a 1999 m750, I feel in love with the ducati sound!!! The muffler the guy had on it before me was some after market muffler and it's super quite! I want everyone to hear how good the v-twin sounds. I took off the muffler he had on and it's just straight piped now. Is this going to ruin anything or make my bike run lean? Am I going to be ok with it like this?? Thanks for your help and you'll probably be hearing me ask a ton more dumb questions in the future.

Don't think it'd be wise to run like that for a long time.  As you mentioned, you'll probably be running pretty lean.

What kind of aftermarket pipe was on there? I thought all aftermarket stuff was designed to make it louder! Never heard of one quieter than stock

I'm not exactly sure what it is. But if I do need to keep a muffler on it what kind can I get to make it super loud

"Super loud" is not cool. Soon everyone is going to have to have EPA approved mufflers because people do this. Get some Termi's, Sils,Remus etc....it will be louder than stock and sound awesome.  If you want a little louder find some D&D's, those are usally the loudest. Keep in mind loud dont mean more powerful, get something that gives you that Ducati sound, not that HD sound....sorry rant over!

Good point, well is there anything I can do like boom tubes only alot cheaper?

hackers2r

If you're just looking for loud and cheap, I'd suggest shortening whatever muffler was on there.  There is a DIY on here if you search.  By taking the length out of the muffler, you will be increasing the volume without taking ALL of the back-pressure away, which is what you have now.  I would post pictures of whatever muffler was on there so that maybe someone can ID it.

They are also the worst sounding pipes that you could possibly put on a Ducati.

If you want the best sound, go with Termignoni or Ferracci.

I totally agree! I LOVE the sound of Sil Motor (Fast by Ferracci) and the quality is waaay better than Termi!!! D&D's do sould bad on a Ducati, but better than nothing at all like a open udder or removed mufflers!!!

Alright I'll post a pic in the morning and see what you guys can do to help me

Bear in mind that not everyone may be quite as enthusiastic as you about the sound of your bike.

D&D are usually the cheesiest and ugliest as well and have no place on a Ducati; my vote is for Arrows, they seem to sound the best and Arrow fulls are the best looking system out there for SSS bikes - if I had a DSS bike I'd buy Mivv GPs or go shortened and cored/glasspacked stockers powdercoated black. I'm running stock glasspacked mufflers on my bike and they're really starting to sound deep and resonant.
