Turkish GP Formula 1 - Spoilers

Anyone catch this race? Some good scraps for the Red Bull / McClaren Teams running up front.
I don't care what Vettel says, he turned too early and hit Webber. Webber was holding his race line and is a pregnant dog to pass no matter who you are. That attempt was in frustration imo. I think Vettel is starting to get rattled by the performance of the Aussie. Its amazing Webber came out of that with nothing more than a busted wing. The Button/Hamilton scrap was much cleaner although they did tap each other.
How about Alonso running up inside Petrov and dropping his tire near the end. Sad to see that battle end like that. I would have liked to see Petrov try and have a go at getting back past him in the last couple laps.

Vettle is an ass.
Webber had the last laugh still on podium and in the lead. Even Hamilton could contain his smirk when Webber was aske if he would have won and said yes.
Vettle is an arrogant little punk.
Yeah strange Petrov blew the tire as they are designed to take a tap or two. Anyway good frigging race. Would have a true laugh for Webba if the MClarens had run out of gas.
Vettle is still a tool.

the team doesn't seem to share your view:

...although Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has blamed Webber for the incident, Horner has adopted a more balanced view – claiming both drivers have to share the blame.
"They should never have been where they were on the circuit," he said. "It needs both of them to realise. You need a bit of co-operation from both, and they both played hard ball and we saw the net result."

All PR.
Vettle + team claims he had no place to go except make the turn.
Webber was holding his line, and we assume that in the micro second, Webber could have avoided the incident. Those mirrors are pretty small...And the overtaking car is ultimately responsible.
In any event, there is no reason the team would have risked the constructors points by advising the drivers to push their standings in the last few laps.
He is tad too hot headed atm and has a beef he's now second fiddle on the team to Webber.
Good racing non the less.

I have to agree that the Red Bull team statement is mostly PR to contain a boiling feud between the two drivers. They have no choice but to claim joint fault or that team is going to implode. Vettel is a young hot head in my opinion. Extremely talented, but at the moment being trumped by his teammate. You can maybe say Webber should have backed off, but he held a firm line going into that corner and Vettel turned very quickly into him without clearing past the car. Vettel had not passed him, leaving the inside line to Webber and was playing hardball similar to how we see Lewis Hamilton drive in a lot of situations. It didn't pan out, both cars went off track, and we're stuck with the PR disaster that Red Bull has no choice but to contain the best the can.
I really enjoy that kind of driving by the way. Its one of the reasons Hamilton is so much fun to watch. He pushes the limits. Vettel did the same and it just didn't work this time, with the situation being a lot more serious considering its his teammate. In the end I'm all for it, because it shows lack of team orders which preserves the sport. He was overtaking though and was his responsibility to make way for the car in front, not the other way around. I don't see how Webber can be faulted for trying to hold the lead and force his opponent wide by running a deep firm line.

the official statement, yes... however, helmut put the blame on webber.
either way, webber was already in fuel saving mode and vettel had one lap of full power to make a move on him.
yes, you can make the argument that webber held his line, but vettel clearly had the front wheel and mark should have, at a minimum, given him room or, more likely, showed some discretion and yielded the position.

I haven't watched the race or the clip ( due to it being blocked from viewability at work cause of the damn filter) but it sounds like you guys expected there to be some level of team orders....these guys are paid to race and push in order to win...and unless it is the penulitmate race with a title on the line...Team Orders generally don't exist...these guys are paid to hang it out there and push the limit to win....and they are paid a lot of money to do so...so unless the team chief in the pit who can see all camera views and data doesn't make the call over the radio for him to back off...why should he?

Vettel had the front wheel because he wayyy overshot his braking to try and get past. Webber did no wrong and Vettel lost it under braking and hit him.
Had he simply tucked back in, stayed close through the next series of corners and then taken Webber into Turn One, all would have been well, but ole Seb got a case of the red mist and buggered it up. As for Weber moving over, screw that. He had the line. He didn't lose it under braking or overshoot his marks and Vettel still hit him. It's up to the passer to make the pass. The passee only has an obligation to not hit him or run him off the road, which Webber didn't.
If it were between 2 different teams I'd call it a racing incident. Actually, I did when Vettel took Kubica out last year in Australia. However, with the championship on the line, he should have shown better judgement.

Not sure I believe anything coming from Horner or Helmut at this point. They obviously want Seb around for the long haul and are trying to paint a different picture since everyone other than them felt it was mostly on Vettel.
I love the F1 drama

Reported this morning that Webber has signed a one year extension to Red Bull.
I have been waiting years for Mark to be competitive. Minardi, Jaguar
, Williams & now he is in a team that's got the right ingredients and I hope he can go all the way.
He has done his apprenticeship, it's time.
