Why Can't I Richen Up My S2R1000?

I collected my VDST software and Gunson Gastester to try eliminating the popping from the exhaust when rolling off the throttle of my 2008 S2R1000.  The bike is stock other than a Marving midpipe and Fat Duc O2 Manipulator.

Why can't I obtain a stable CO% reading above 3% - even with both airscrews fully in and the trim maxed on +128?  After starting the bike, the CO% will run up to 6+%, and then rapidly drop back down to less than 3%.  I saw CO readings as low as 1.2% after removing the Fat Duc because I thought it might be interfering somehow.

Is the ECU compensating for the adjustments to the airscrews and trim?  Is this the curse of the closed loop system or is there a way to get my CO up to the 4-6% target?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes.  The O2 sensor will not allow you to tune with anything except the fat duc.  The ecu trim doesn't work with the stock ecu, the numbers will change but the ecu doesn't use it.
if you want to adjust the trim, you need a reflash or a DP ecu.   Your fat duc should do what you want.  I've not used one but read good things about them.

Thanks, Bill.  You confirm what I was seeing.  It would have been nice for the sales literature to tell me I would not be able to change trim as that was a selling feature for the software.

I asked this question elsewhere, but maybe should have asked it here.  When resetting the TPS using the VDST on the S2R1000 / 5 AM, is it simply a matter of using the computer to reset the TPS or do we still need to follow the old procedure of putting slack in the throttle body linkage to ensure the left throttle body is seated?

The instructions I have read are unclear, but seem to indicate it is all done with the software on these bikes.  That does not seem right to me, though.  My TPS read 2.8-degrees and reset to 3.4-degrees without me physically changing anything on the bike.

Thanks,
Jeff

Your fat duc should do what you want.

The Fat Duc does smooth out low speed operation and the on/off throttle transition, but does not eliminate the popping from the exhaust when rolling off the throttle.  I'd say it's worth $80 for the rideability improvement, but is not the final solution.
